I'm offended by this as a size 14 person as well as a pregnant person. Because I was overweight before I was pregnant and still would never think it's okay for a shirt like that to exist.
Regardless of WHY someone isn't skinny (pregnant or just fat), it's not okay for a company to create a shirt that essentially says that anything but skinny is wrong.

@night cheese: I'm offended by this as a woman, regardless of size!

@MsLipGloss: Totally want to hear their response!
These shirts are gross. UGH.

That's so stupid. I actually thought the first one was a reference to being tired more than weight gain until the thee two were posted. It's really weird. The "no - no - no -" seems like a "yes I'm pregnant," which is also weird. Just strange and off putting all around.

Those are terrible. The first one is just offensive, in general. Because they're basically saying that overweight people shouldn't/can't be happy, either. That's unacceptable.
@MsLipGloss: Looking forward to hearing their response.

@Modern Daisy: me too!
@MsLipGloss: so interested in this response.
I really kind of hate them right now.

Oh hhheeeellllllls no. Off to write sassy email.
ETA: Just sent this off their way
To Whom It May Concern,
I find your new line of graphic tees with the slogans "I Miss My Waist" and "Wake Me Up When I'm Skinny" to be incredibly offensive and mysogynistic. A pregnant woman's body should be celebrated not lamented. A pregnant woman is growing a new life, she is not fat, nor is she unattractive because she can no longer fit into a size 2 pair of jeans. As a company who markets solely to pregnant women you should know much better. Shame on you for promoting this type of unhealthy body image in pregnant women. I sincerely hope these shirts will be removed from your line, and an apology will be issued. I certainly will never purchase any clothes from you or your sister companies again, and will encourage my friends to do the same.
Sincerely,
Mamamoose

@MsLipGloss: also interested in their response! I'd also love to hear what I can only assume was a well-crafted and articulate email you sent them!!

Well, I normally think, "To each his own," and maybe someone, somewhere thinks these are awesome, but I am going to ask them to wake me up when they get a social conscience. Last I checked people come in all shapes and sizes. And that's actually a *good* thing. Skinny is a drink at Starbucks, right?

Appalling! Eh I never liked that store...I was always claustrophobic going in there and their prices are ridiculous!

@night cheese: Saw this on Jez as well. Pissed me off to no end. I'm actually tempted to write my first 'letter to the company' like some of the ladies above did. Grrrrrr. As an overweight before she was pregnant lady, I'm really effing offended.

Joining the "I wrote a letter, too" crowd. I bought some maternity clothes from them because they're one of the few stores that seemed to have a good selection of suits, and I needed them for work. I'm so annoyed that they would sell something like this.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but which is it Pea?! Should we want to be skinny, or should we want to be fatties eating cake and ice cream at midnight?!
pomegranate / 3779 posts
I saw the "Wake me when I'm skinny" one at Macy's (their maternity section is all Pea in the Pod and Motherhood stuff) yesterday and thought that was a really horrible thing to wear.

@rattles: This is how I took it, too. Totally not my cup of tea, but I can see both sides, those who are offended and see it in super bad taste, and those who would wear it and think it's hilarious.

@swurlygurl: LET me eat cake? Since when do I need ANYone's permission to eat dessert? I can eat cake whenever I damn well please. In fact, I think I'll eat a whole f-ing cake and video it and they can watch. Why on earth do we have to make the fuel of eating disorders and body dysmorphia and discrimination into shirts?
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@Mrs. Twine: damn right. Anyone tries to tell me I can't eat cake (pregnant or not!) they better get ready for a punch in the face.

I'm reading this thread thinking that it MUST be April Fool's Day or something and then I realize it's June. This is so disappointing of this company. Any how many people have to approve these designs? How did it possibly get this far to be sold? What a disgrace.
honeydew / 7589 posts
@Mrs. Twine: If you need extras in your cake eating video, I'll go make a lemon blueberry cake right now. It's been on my "to try" list anyway.

@Mrs. Twine: I think it's supposed to be a riff on Marie Antoinette and the (in)famous "Let them eat cake" line. Which is kind of ironic as it was meant to be indicative of her obliviousness to the state of her people, which falls pretty close in line with a maternity company calling its clients fatties.
