I love this blanket but it takes forever. Or maybe I'm just slow.

@BeachMama: Oh my gosh! You're making this?! I saw it ages ago and have been dying to do it - but it looked like it would take forever and like it would also use up a zillion yards of yarn. Please post a picture when you're done (or an in-progress!).

@mfa_lady: My cousin made it, and she actually said it worked up really fast and easily. It's on my to do list!

I can't think of any patterns, since I usually don't use them for the stuff I do. But if anyone has any good patterns for stuffed animals (crochet), I want to start working on some for the baby's woodland critters nursery!

@mfa_lady - I made this one for DD when I was pregnant

@Torchwood: So good to know! It's so cute! (I'd love to get some critter patterns, too. I don't have any LOs but I think they'd make great gifts!)

@BeachMama: It's GORGEOUS! I adore the colors you chose. Seems like it would be so nice and cushy for a new babe, too! Awesome job. Thanks for sharing

Thanks @mfa_lady! I wanted bright happy colors and nothing too girly. I'm really happy w it and DD sleeps w it every night. Unfortunately some strands have started to snag on it. Not sure how to fix it, and DD likes to pull on them

@BeachMama: Thanks for the reminder on that one! My cousin just found out she was pregnant, and I want to make her a blanket. That one will be perfect!

@cascademom: You are awesome! Now I'm dying to get my hands on some of that super chunky yarn!!

@mfa_lady: I love super bulky yarn. I'm waiting on some Malabrigo Mecha to make a seed stitch version of this from a different pattern. I'm loving my infinity scarf these days.

@cascademom: Oooh, that sounds amazing! That Malabrigo Mecha is gorgeous. I've never used it but the colorways look incredible!

This is a quick easy pattern that makes a nice thick blanket... I made one for my son and use it as a mat on the floor:

This one isn't free but is really pretty and easy to follow:

@sarahbs: Both of those patterns look amazing! I bet the three-strand one would look awesome in a half-double crochet, too. I've never crocheted with such a big needle...I will have to try that! Thanks, girl!

I'm just finishing up a huge blanket for my parents and DH said he wants one for our house next. I'm dying to try this pattern!

@BeachMama: I know this is an old thread, but I just came across it and love this pattern you shared! I'm a bit intimidated, but I love the look! It's absolutely beautiful!
I thought I would bump this thread for any other easy crochet/knit baby blankets. I'm definitely a beginner.

@winter_wonder: I also did the blackberry stripe blanket and loved it.
I also do this pattern regularly as baby gifts. I love that I don't have to break the yarn! http://www.mooglyblog.com/loopy-love-blanket/
Also this blog has amazing albeit easy blanket tutorials: http://attic24.typepad.com
The second blanket in the photo is the cozy blanket.

Attic24 also has a great ripple pattern. I tried others and they wouldn't lay flat. Hers is so much better. http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/ripple-blanket-know-how.html
I also like her granny stripe. http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/granny-stripe.html. I didn't use as many colors. I alternated white with two shades of blue and it came out fantastic.

My favorite baby blanket pattern is Jared Flood's Umaro -- you can find it on Ravelry or at the Brooklyn Tweed website. I've made it...6 times? It calls for super bulky yarn but if you use a worsted weight and cast on the same number of stitches called for in the pattern, it makes the perfect size for a baby blanket. Also love the Twin Leaf baby blanket at paintinglilies.com, which I've made a couple times. Neither is for a true beginner, but they're easy intermediate patterns. My favorite baby sweater at the moment is Granny's Favorite by Georgie Hallam/Tikki Knits on Ravelry, although all her patterns are great -- Wallaby is really cute and somewhat easier (no lace). And for a me-centered project, Jared Flood's Guernsey Wrap is a really fun and pretty quick knit. My current project is JF's Celes scarf, which is definitely intermediate to advanced -- I'm a pretty seasoned lace knitter and I really have to pay close attention and be hyper-vigilant about counting rows. So it's not the most fun knit, but it's SO beautiful I think it will be worth it in the end. And I'm using Galler Prime Alpaca, which is pure joy. I can't decide whether I'm impatient for it to be done or whether I want to keep knitting it FOREVER.

DS needed more sweaters and I have lots of yarn and was feeling broke so I made this for him. It is soooo easy and really cute! http://tincanknits.com/pattern-SC-flax.html

@skipra: I JUST used the same pattern to make DD a sweater! Cute, easy, and free can't be beat! I did make a bunch of modifications (figured out the rows to do ombré stripes and didn't do the garter stitch down the sleeve). I'll post a pic tonight.
