Any shoe recommendations for balance bike enthusiasts?
DS is a size 8.5 and burning through shoes. He’s staying with his grandparents next week and will have lots of time to ride. I’d like to send him with shoes that are up for the challenge. I don’t want to hear from MIL that she had to buy my poor children shoes again.

@Corduroy: Haha. My MIL did (and said) the same thing last summer when I sent DS to visit and she thought his shoes were too small 
My DS is nearly 2.5 and wears an 8 - and he just got a balance bike! He wears crocs most of the summer but if you don't think those would be good for riding, his "winter" shoes are adidas or vans. Both hold up well. They have never worn out before he grew out, if that makes sense I still get the ones with velcro! My friends swear by toddler new balance.

Not for balance bike specifically but I noticed that a lot of kids shoes have no rubberized outer sole on them anymore. That’s probably why he’s wearing them out so quickly! I second Adidas and actually Reebok has a couple with good rubber soles. Still flexible and not too built up, but protects the softer midsole. Shoe companies do this to make the shoe lighter but it does wear quicker.

I didn’t realize kids needed special shoes for balance bikes. LO tried out his bike for the first time last weekend and he used his regular sneakers- Jordans.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I don’t think special shoes are generally needed. I never noticed special wear on my daughter’s shoes. My son has a different personality and a different technique. He’s all about going downhill fast and quick stops. He’s really amped up his daredevil game this week - we’re waiting for stitches for a non-balance bike injury now.

Bumping this thread!!
My girl goes fast on her balance bike and drags the front of her feet to stop. I won't let her wear any of her "nice" shoes anymore. I give her older shoes that I won't be passing down. But she is ruining them fast. Did anyone find a shoe that holds ups well against being dragged across the blacktop?

I never found shoes that held up well but I made my speed demon boy wear his “scooter shoes” that were old or cheap to keep his other shoes nice (he was all about the toe break for about a year and then learned not to do it)

@bhbee: Okay thanks. Yes to the darn toe break. I will just use some stupid shoes we have. I didn't know if someone here found some shoe with an all black indestructible sole.
