I thought of a few more:
Cy (as in Cy Twombley or Cy Young)
    Amos
    Abel

Names I think are cool but were too outside the box for me, I’m the opposite of you and a bit more traditional

Dax / Dex (I’ve actually met a sahd with the name Dax and thought it’s really cool)
    Mack
    Zeke
    Beau
    Ace
    Abe
    Hugh

I know a baby named Jett and think it’s cool for the right person.
Also have seen a couple of Jaggers around nyc and they call them “Jag” for short.

And this is really out there but there was a Sonic at my sons school last year.

@poppygirl15: Oh yeah, I knew a Cy in high school and thought it was really cool.

@ChiCalGoBee: I just posted Hugh and then saw your post. So “Hugh” could also be a nod to LH.

    Theo
    James
    Hank
Kell (I'm reading the "A Darker Shade of Magic" trilogy and love this character name)

@SweetiePie: and I have to smile at your post, because I had a student named Jagger, and his little brother was Jett!

I like “Hugh” as a nod to Langston Hughes!

@ChiCalGoBee: I love the name Hugh. It was near the top of my list but I decided we’re just not cool enough to pull it off 😂
I went to high school with a Hugh (he was a couple years older) and his friends/all the girls called him Huey and I just thought it was so cute/cool.

Congrats!! I remember when you were expecting your daughter when I was expecting my second kiddo. I like Ethan on your list for obvious reasons. I liked the suggestion of other poet names too.

I saw these at work but didn’t have time to respond individually. I giggled thinking about Mick Jagger. And then there’s Hugh Heifner I believe.

Dh did a complete 180 and suggested Langston and Benjamin. Not my style at all! This will be very hard to find a blend we both *love*. Or maybe, it’ll just be what can we live with. So far, we agree on Ethan or Luke. But, the baby doesn’t feel like a Luke.

    @cascademom: lol I know right.

Eep! Three months later and we still don't have a name. We were set on Elijah for a while but it doesn't quite work with our last name. Reminds me of a famous King. Shamelessly bumping to see if anyone has any fresh ideas we may not have thought of? We have literally gone through the baby name book twice!!

@Raspberry: DH would say reminds him of Penn State and we are huge SEC fans lol.

Max is pretty traditional but short and cute

    How about Asa? Or Ari

  17. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@magnolia: I don't want to sound like I'm shooting everything down lol. Dh has said Max is a dog's name and he argues with me that Ari and a host of other names are actually "girl" names. He doesn't believe in unisex names. I loved Morgan for a while- come on Morgan Freeman is totally a man! I also liked Audrey which is a family name, but he says it's girl name. I'll give him that- the family member is a female lol.

@dc yoga bee: hey I love a challenge ha! I’ve only ever known Ari and Morgan to be male.

    Vigo

@magnolia: Meh. I'm looking for something trendy and hip? I also liked names like Elias, maybe Liam, Kai, Steffan. DH's favorites were Luke and Lucas. But, I thought those sounded rough on the tongue if that makes sense. E names with our last name are out.

@dc yoga bee: Have y'all tried the tinder for baby names app? It's mentioned in this article.

    https://www.todaysparent.com/pregnancy/baby-names/theres-a-tinder-for-baby-names-and-its-a-game-changer/

I like: Whit, Ford, Wells, Caleb

@dc yoga bee: I like Liam too. It’s extremely popular right now. Every other kid at the school where I work is named Liam.

Do you mean names ending in E or beginning?

    Luka?

@LBee: That's the swiping one right? Yes, we did that and we both swiped on Ethan but then decided it's a back up if nothing else sticks. So, I like the name Ford. But I hate Ford cars! Am I thinking too hard?

@magnolia: DH doesn't like Liam but he likes William. William is too traditional for me. My name was #1 in the 80's for years and years. I was one of three in my classes. I see another person with my name darn near everyday. I don't care about popularity vs. obscure. E in the beginning. Anything that remotely sounds like Elvis given our last name

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@dc yoga bee: thinking way too hard. Alternatively, I like Toyotas but didn’t consider it for a child’s name.

  24. dc yoga bee

@LBee: I just think I'd always think of Ford cars. And my family really really hates Fords in particular!

@dc yoga bee: I have an extremely obscure name that no one can pronounce or spell. I’d take a popular one any day. If you love it is all that matters

@dc yoga bee: I like Silas given your parameters.
This isn’t short necessary, but what about Xavier? We considered maya for a girl but didn’t use it, but if she has been a boy we probably would have gone with Xavier, nickname X.

We had such a hard time coming up with our second kids name. We finally settled on a name we love but it’s so very popular.

We have a Benjamin/Ben and Harrison (nn Harris, but we almost always call him Harrison). I wanted not too common, but easy to pronounce because I have a unique/hard to pronounce name and it’s a pain. Congratulations, boys are fun!

Boy names are fun but, imo, hard to agree on. DH went back and forth until I was 38/39 weeks!

My ideas were Leo, Miles and Theo as good-sounding pairs with Maya...but I see them listed more than once here so I have a few more ideas...

    Knox
    Lelan
    Ellis
    Jed or Jeb
Also “initial names” like JB (like another 20th century writer James Baldwin to pair with Maya Angelou)

Tom/Thom? I know a few people who are just named Tom, not Thomas.
    I also like Hugh/Hugo.
In any case, I think a lot of short boy names will go well with your DD’s name, it’s so lovely!
