Ask!! I work at an HR firm, at the HQ so we have temps, contractors, F/T employees comign adn going all the time.

Visitor parking is almost always for pregnant ladies! (Unless it's full by the time you get there)

Yes! Everywhere I've worked has always allowed pregnant ladies to park close to the front of the building.

I agree with @woodentulip: . I walked to work every day 4 ish blocks; I just wore sneakers / winter boots and changed into flats at work. I also worked on the 3rd floor of a renovated old city home; they offered to switch my desk to the first floor. But I preferred to walk the stairs, the very narrow, steep inclined, not to code stairs.

I get here early enough that I can get a spot in the front parking lot. But when I was pregnant, I finally broke down and asked the receptionists if I could park in the visitor when I got here late on my doctor appointment days. I would have to park all the way in the back back parking lot. I would work out every night but that walk for some reason killed me.

I like the suggestion of changing your shoes. Unless you're super uncomfortable, I would walk.

I should also note that I worked in a very casual environment about 90% of the time, so I was able to wear comfy shoes and comfy clothes most of the time. On the days that I didn't, I would change once I got to work (this included on -30 celsius days) I would just change in the bathroom. But lots of people did that--snow pants and all!

It depends on how you feel. At 29 weeks, walking was good for me and my only excersise. I'm now 37 weeks and I would have to take a break in my 10 min walk in the parking lot, so I'd get the better spot! Use your judgement. Only you know how you feel.

As a contractor, no I wouldn't ask.

I would ask. Yes exercise is good but I remember the feeling. I had terrible sciatica that hindered my ability to walk without pain and I seriously considered asking my midwife how to go about getting a handicapped parking sign. Not because I was lazy but because I was in so much pain from walking! I hope my next pregnancy isn't as painful!

I'm on team change shoes. I keep a pair of basic black pumps in my desk and wear my toms in and out of the office most days. Only exception is when I want to wear a fun colour shoe. It's less work than you think to swap.

I would ask if its very hard for you to walk. I walked 3 miles every day at lunch rain or shine. I would wear comfortable shoes to work and change when I got to the office.

I would ask. There's something unbearable about that long walk to work. I HATED days I didn't get a parking spot in the parking garage at the train station and had to walk 15 minutes to the train. My laptop and lunch would seem so heavy in my back pack or purse and make me really uncomfortable and sweaty. I, like you, was working out at night so it's not like I was turning into a sloth.

I would definitely walk. The exercise is great for you and you can change your shoes!

I see no harm in asking. I remember towards the end of my pregnancy, it hurt to walk 1/4 mile. I can't imagine how it would have felt to walk to and from work, if I had to park super far away. I would get a pass now and if you feel up to walking, just walk. If you don't and you're feeling yucky that day, use it!

I had the same environment at work. Super large parking lot, manufacturing, etc. I wore tennis shoes and jeans to work every day.

I parked in visitor's parking every day my last 4 weeks in the office. It took me *so long* to waddle into work with all my gear from that far away (plus it was winter! Brrr! Also didn't want to trip on ice), that I just did it. Saved me so much time when I had to jet between meetings and go from building to building. Nobody said shit. The receptionists always chatted me up and it was obvious i worked there b/c of my badge. And now I'm back to parking in the boondocks.

The other two pregnant ladies joked that the company policy, which was "exercise is good for pregnant women! There is no maternity parking, you should walk!" was made by a man who didn't have 30 pounds of baby sitting on his man parts

I voted no, but only because I walk 15-20 minutes every day each way during my commute and I think it's great actually! I wear flats though, I have several pairs of tory burch flats that I rotate and I change into heels when I get to my desk. In fact, my work heels live in my desk, they never leave the office.

The walking was never a problem for me, even during the awful heat wave we had here. Of course, if you have a medical condition where the walkign becomes a problem then definitely ask for a closer spot, but otherwise I personally think it's a great excuse to incorporate excersize into your daily routine!
