We use ours all the time. Even if germ exposure is good for immine systems, ive been to numerous restaurant s that im pretty sure have never ever wiped the high chair clean! I wouldn't want to sit in a dirty seat, so I dont make my bsby sit in one either. Plus, shopping carts are gross and im pretty sure another bees baby got salmonella from one. Not worth it!

Nay for me. I have a cover that I used once.

If you are only going to use it at a restaurant, you might try something like this instead.

We have one. I get that kids need germs but shopping carts are just pretty nasty. Lol. Plus, I used to just wipe the cart down and there was one time that this guy was holding his maybe 2 year old who wanted to ride the cart and he insisted that it was nasty. Then his wife pointed at me and lo, sitting in the cart with no cover, and they were both laughing. I get that they weren't really laughing AT me but it was awkward...plus I got a lot of weird looks. I guess those covers are just popular here.

That looks so plush and comfy! I'm a child of the 80s that was exposed to germs, and it didn't do a lick of good for my immune system. I'm always sick! So, I'm of the mindset of why exposé myself to all those nasty germs if I don't have to. Shopping carts I'm looking at you!

I have the Eddie Bauer one and love it. I mostly got it for when he was just learning to sit up. But he likes to bite on the shopping cart so I'm glad I have it. It also has stuffed animals attached so he plays and chews on those and I don't have to worry about them dropping on the dirty floor.

I also just keep it in my trunk. When we take my husbands car and I forget it I don't worry about it and put him in the cart anyway

Yeah, I'm in the camp at thinks it is necessary, but I don't use it with high chairs, only shopping trolleys. I'm ok with germs, but not salmonella and other raw food germs that inadvertently get on shopping carts. Also, your LO is only 5 months now and likes being worn in the grocery store.......but in a few months time, it may be a very different story!

They're not that expensive so I'd go with it. My 12 month old LO loves sitting in the shopping trolley and it's nice to not worry about having to wipe it all down before she gets in, or wondering what kind of germs she's going to be getting in her mouth. There are far better means of germ exposure without risking serious illnesses IMO!

We only use a cover in shopping carts, never use one in restaurant high chairs. He just seems really uncomfortable in the cart without the cover. He would also lean over to the side and start chewing on the metal. I'm not a germaphobe at all but the chewing grosses me out.

We use ours all the time but mostly because it has the tags so we can put toys on it to keep her occupied. She also seems to deal with being at the store better when she has the cushion of the cart cover. I got it because I was paranoid about germs but we keep using it for her comfort!

We've never used it in a restaurant high chair though.

@littlecasita1122: Yes, I hate the chewing too! She has actually moved the cover once to chew on the actual cart but seemed to get the point when I freaked out and put it back over the cart.

I got one as a gift and never remembered to bring it with us on errands.

Had one, hated it, it was a giant PITA.

We used shopping cart and highchair covers with #1! We don't bother with #2! We just carry around antibacterial wipes and wipe things down really really well. But that's mostly because we don't want to carry around another piece of gear and take the time to set it up. With 2 squirmy kids it's just not an option. I'd say get a used one!!

we have one from buy buy baby and I've used it every time! it's comfy for her, she loves to look at the pattern too

For eating out, we plan to bring along the bebepod. For shopping, we do the same thing you do - one of us wears him.

@allison: No, I agree that it does, since you can't fold/smush up the bebepod to try to cram it in your diaper bag. But I'd rather carry in the bebepod than buy yet another piece of gear. Once he's able to sit on his own better, than we'll just wipe everything off!

@allison: we use the balboa baby high chair cover for restaurants bc it's small and fits in the diaper bag. I have a Buggy Bagg for the shopping cart, but that stays in my car. I really like having both.
