Right now, we have three options + an option for Other.
Should we add one for Maternity Leave too? Or maybe it should just say, Parental Leave...
ps Just noticed this suggestion was made by a Canadian! Makes sense... here in America, you'd probably have to change your profile status away from Maternity Leave too quickly to come up with this idea!!

@mrbee: on that note, would you all consider adding something like "postpartum" under TTC status? Otherwise, I'm not sure what to put right after I have the baby!

@mrbee: It could! I guess I thought of that option more as, "we're trying to space our kids out," rather than, "I just popped out a child." I realize that "postpartum" does sound a little awkward, though.

Definitely think that if I were working and going to be on maternity leave, I'd like to have that option! And agree that parental leave is better.

Awesome, going to go change mine since SAH didn't really feel right either since I'm heading back after my year's leave is up.
And I think parental leave is totally fine. We get a year in Canada, but it's actually split 17 weeks maternity leave (ie, only a woman who physically expels a human from her body can take it), 35 parental (available to anybody, male or female, who comes to be the parent of a child via birth or adoption) so we're actually on parental leave for the majority of the time anyway.

@Foodnerd81: Right. Maternity leave is more for preparing and recovering from actual birth. You can commence it prior to baby being born if you wanted or were having more serious medical issues but didn't qualify for disability. Parental leave is 35 weeks that can be used anytime in the first year that you have a biological child or adopted child placed with you. During this time most people are eligible to receive employment insurance benefits up to $485/week, and some employers will top up, and my employer allows you to have an additional year off with no pay, but they must provide you with an "equivalent position of no less responsibility or compensation" upon my return.
In our case, I'm likely going back to work next month 17 weeks maternity leave, and ~20 weeks parental leave. Then my husband will commence his parental leave for the remaining 15 weeks, and his employer tops up to 93% of his salary. Lots of people have their husbands use a couple months leave right away, and do their maternity/parental leave concurrently, it just means the leave for the "team" ends before a year.
