Did your LO have silent reflux? If so how did you treat it?
We have suspected LO has had it for the past few weeks and are seeing the pediatrician tomorrow. He is very fussy during feedings, is never relaxed after feedings (fusses), burps a ton, almost always hiccups after eating, and hates laying flat on his back.

Lo didn't have reflux. Bumping!

Sounds like reflux. My son had regular reflux (not silent) and he had those same reactions (burping, gassy, hated lying down, would fuss after eating). One of my friend's babies had silent reflux that went undetected for month and months. She was a first time mom and had no idea. She thought she just had a really fussy baby. It turns out that her baby had silent reflux but she waited sooooo long to take her to the ped (like almost 8 months) that the baby had really negative associations with food/milk and wouldn't eat! So good for you for being proactive and seeing the ped tomorrow! If it's silent reflux, better to treat it now than wait until much later! Good luck!!

Aaaw... poor baby. I hope he gets relief soon. I know way too many moms who have babies with reflux. Seems so common these days.

@winniebee: we seem to be on a very similar path!! Yes. Our DD has silent reflux. She didnt have a problem on her back and was sleeping through the night so we assumed it couldn't be reflux, but she was very fussy during and after eating, arching her back and screaming. She also got very hoarse and we heard her swallowing all nigh in bed. We got her on baby Zantac and the problem has been fixed ever since! You need to up the dose as she gets bigger (if symptoms continue; some just grow out of it) and I have read about babies with severe cases for whom the meds don't work, but it was a game changer for us!! Think she is very mild. Good luck.

All babies reflux, but it's just a matter of what degree. Lala had some bad reflux and then MSPI on top of it, making for some miserable feeds!

@regberadaisy: There is some sort of invasive testing that can be done. Alternative is to do a trial of Prilosec or Zantac and see if it helps. Given how uncomfortable and upset DS is during feedings and after, I'm willing to try that. Basically I just want to get the ped's thoughts on it.

Update: The ped agrees that DS has a compelling case of reflux so we are trying him on Zantac...hope it helps him enjoy his feedings more...and maybe I can try BF again....

@winniebee: Hope the Zantac works! My son was on Zantac for 2 months and it seemed to help. What really helped though was burping him after every meal (and I mean I wouldn't stop til he let out one out!) and also holding him upright right after feedings for at least 20 minutes. Good luck!

@winniebee: OH good! You're already ahead of the game! My son's reflux got a lot better at around the 3 month mark (practically went away). My ped said it was an immature esophagus and that he just needed to grow more. Hope it goes away for your LO soon too!

@winniebee: It's so confusing to me because all these "symptoms" of conditions can also be symptoms of other conditions. I looked up quickly the symptoms of silent reflux and my LO has like 85% of it! But she also had symptoms of colic, milk protein allergy or a very fussy/gassy baby!
I feel like I'm over analyzing everything about her!
ETA: As I'm reading a site more and more about silent reflux I feel LO might possibly have "silent reflux" as well. But I have noticed a HUGE improvement in her since I've cut out all major dairy/milk from my diet. Def going to keep the "natural remedies" of reflux in mind from now on...

i had also suspected that LO had reflux, but he didn't seem bother by it, so i figured i'd wait until his 2 month appointment to bring it up. then last week he was on antibiotics and i think it really upset his stomach and triggered the reflux to become worse. i called the doctor on tuesday and took him in and they agreed it was reflux. he's also on zantac...wednesday was awful, he was so cranky and fussy and spitting up more, but since he's been on it a few days he's like a new child!! he's going longer between feedings and isn't as fussy, and the spitting up has gone down a little bit(which they ay the Zantac doesn't help).
i really hope that the Zantac works for you!!! :o) it's great having a more content baby.

I will tell you that silent reflux was the number 1 symptom of our sons milk soy intolerance. Zantac only worked for 2 weeks.

@winniebee: did your lo's reflux get better? Seeing our ped tomorrow to discuss it. Lo also has mspi so she is on nutramegan.
