How old was your LO when they could sit without assistance? I know DD1 it was closer to 7 months, DD2 is almost 6 months and shows no signs of wanting to sit, she wants to lay/roll or stand/jump (with assistance obviously!) I'm wondering when she will show interest in working those abs

@lovehoneybee: oh no this is what I'm afraid of! Other parents have told me about the magical phase when the baby can sit unassisted but not crawl and I think I'm going to miss out!

@lovehoneybee: she's already trying to crawl, she's rocking back and forth and getting so frustrated! I want her to sit before crawl...haha selfishly I'm not ready for a mobile baby!

My lo crawled and then sat. She got in to the sitting position from the crawl position. Around 7 months I think.

C can sit tripod for a few minutes but falls over eventually.

Def by 6 mo! She started trying by 5 months!

Around 8 months. She started crawling and pulling up before then. Whenever we tried to get her to sit she always leaned forward to move towards something instead of sitting up.

@Anya: @LuLu Mom: Haha yeah that "magical phase" lasted literally about 4 minutes for us...he sat up, looked very proud of himself for a few minutes, then proceeded to crawl over to me!

for A it was 9 months (7 months corrected age)

If I sat her up, she could sit up by herself at about 6.5 or 7 months. But she didn't last too long (a few minutes) before face planting. She could sit herself up and then was a rock star at sitting at 7.5 mo-- christmas day!

My 3.5 month old *only* wants to sit. She shows no interest in rolling over, and when on her back she frequently tries to stomach crunch her way to sitting... and gets sooo frustrated. She can't sit unassisted yet, but it feels like she'll end up doing that before rolling over!

@Herrade: This is exactly how my baby was, but rolled no problem right before 4 months and he's sitting short periods by himself (30 sec - 3 min) at about 4.5 months. He still "crunches" if reclined like in bouncer or car seat.

@Herrade: My baby is 7 months, still doesn't roll back to tummy, and sits like a champ!
@LuLu Mom: L could tripod sit at 5 months, and sit without hands around 5.5-6 months. She can sit for quite a while, but still topples over sometimes at 7 months. -
6 months...and then she army crawled across the room, stinker!
