I don't have a ton of advice. We also had a great sleeper until 3.5 months and it's been a struggle ever since. We tried sleep training at six months and it didnt help at all. But now he's seven months and this week we tried again and it seems to be working better. When was the last time you tried sleep training? I was surprised that a month made a difference but maybe it will for you too!
Sleep deprivation sucks the life out of you... I totally understand.

@imbali: so, my baby is a naturally bad sleeper and any of the above can make her sleep worse: going to bed too early, going to bed too late....not napping enough during the day, napping too long....teething is a big one. She's always popping a new tooth through. And then illness--she's had a daycare cough for months that worsens at night.

My LO is 10.5 months old and up until this week was waking up anywhere from 2-6 times a night and my husband and I are also CONSTANTLY exhausted. Our number one cause of fights in our household are due to exhaustion related bitchiness--true story.

This week, LOs sleep got worse (I didn't think it could get worse, but it did), so we are attempting sleep training for the second time. Last night was our first night and LO cried for about 22 minutes initially (she has this new thing where she stands in the crib and screams) before falling asleep a little after 7 pm. Then she cried for 5-6 minutes at 12:30 am, let out 1 cry at around 3 am and then woke up for the day at 5:15.

That sounds bad, but lately she's been waking up all those times and STAYING awake, so it was actually a massive improvement.

Good luck-- there are many methods to work on your LOs sleep. You can find one you are comfortable with--and then try it for at least a week to give it a real shot.

@imbali: sounds like 1) she has a nurse/rock to sleep association that is not letting her self soothe to sleep, and 2) I would guess she's overtired from the late bedtime and multiple wakeups.

sounds like sleep training is in order! We did it at 6.5 months and had great success in getting LO down to 1 night waking, which was our goal. We used Ferber (CIO with checks) and things were much better by night 3! There are lots of other methods, just depends how you want to handle it/what you and your DH can handle. I personally needed something with quick results because I was dying--I'm a SAHM and was handling all MOTN wakeups as well as getting up with LO first thing in the morning and it was unsustainable.

@imbali: we actually did naps first and then bedtime (even though it's usually recommended to do it the other way around) because I literally could not rock him to sleep anymore--it wasn't working. So I had to figure out a way to get him to sleep, so I basically stayed in the room with him until he fell asleep. That was at 5 months. At 6.5 months we tackled bedtime using Ferber.

Honestly, when LO started standing up a couple of weeks ago, her sleep got a million times worse. Seriously, I didn't think it could get worse, and then it did--Not only was she having frequent wakeups, but when she did wake up she would NOT go back to sleep.

I tried everything before resorting to CIO again, but even if LO appeared to be completely asleep, as soon as she was put in the crib, she would wake up, crawl to the side, pull up on the crib and just scream. So I'd pick her up and soothe her, put her back in, and repeat. Over and over and over. For literally, about 1.5 hours to get her to even fall asleep, and then over and over all night every time she would wake up.

So finally , I just decided to let her stand and scream. I figured she would have to get tired and lay down on her own rather than have me lay her down. And...it has worked (for now).

She's such a bad sleeper that I know this isn't the end of our sleep issues but I feel great after sleeping 11-5 this morning with no interruptions, so I'll take what I can get. =)

I hope your LO starts sleeping soon, too. We both deserve some rest.
