Do you sleep with your toddler to help them fall asleep? Please tell me I'm not alone in this, we lay in bed with her until she falls asleep and then sneak out (or sneak out after we wake up realizing we too fell asleep 
) This is the only way she will sleep in her own bed, so in our mind it is the lesser of the 2 evils, the other being her sleeping in our bed!

last night. Typically we sit in his chair until he falls asleep, with the idea that every night we move the chair closer to the door until we're in the hallway, and then out of sight... but that's been the plan for three months and last night I totally passed out on his floor

DH has for naps a couple times. We will lay and snuggle with her some nights but we always leave before she is asleep.

We do lay with him/sit with him, but I try to leave before he's asleep.

Every damn night. CIO doesn't work for us in general and especially not now that he can just get up and out of bed.

I lay with him every night till he falls asleep and then I sneak out. I also often fall asleep and DH has to come wake me up! He is 21 months and this has always been the way.. I don't mind except #2 will be here any day so things might get a little tricky then. Also, only I can do this, he doesn't want DH at bedtime.

@travellingbee: Ditto! If we did CIO, DS would cry until he threw up, repeatedly. No bueno.

I guess we are pretty lucky. DS loves to be cuddled, but then the routine is we put him in his crib, sing 2 songs, and then we leave the room. Most nights this works. He might need extra cuddling when he's sick or teething.

My 3 yo had gotten terrible about this and was wanting me (and only me) to sleep with her. I'm expecting another in a couple weeks and knew we'd have to break this habit so we started by only letting my husband do it. After a couple nights, she was okay with that.
Then last week, we had some remarkable luck. She really wanted to sleep with a new stuffed animal we had bought for her baby sister to be. I said, OK...but you need to go to sleep on your own. I was completely shocked when she did just that. Most nights since she has done so much better, although her new toy that she brings to bed is a giant fake diamond we got out of a vending machine at Buffalo Wild Wings. We tell her it's time to go to bed and dream about going on a treasure hunt with her princess friends. If she starts acting up or trying to leave her room, we threaten to take it away. So far, so good (fingers crossed it sticks!). I am still in awe that one night and something so little did a 180 with her behavior. So I'm wishing you the same stroke of luck!

I slept next to DD from 18 months-3years until she was asleep, then snuck out. Then around 3 years I was able to start leaving her before he was asleep. Now, I read her a few books, kiss her goodnight, lay with her for a minute or two, and then leave and she goes to bed.

i don't, simply because i don't have the patience. however, if it works for you and it's not hurting anybody, then there's nothing to be embarrassed about.
we went through a tough phase of getting LO to fall asleep by himself without running after us and crying. it took a long time and was difficult but it was worth it to me.

Nope. I've done it for two naps--one that i snuck out on (and then she was traumatized when she woke up and i had gone to work) and the other that I slept with her for nearly two hours. I was exhausted.

Only as a special treat. But he doesn't usually ask. We've been super consistent since a year, so he know the drill. There aren't tears.

Sometimes. I feel bad bc my older one if she gets upset will calm down a lot more quickly just to snuggle with her for 5 min. My younger one does better if you leave her alone. She'll cry for about a min and then fall asleep, but if we stay she'll try to talk to us forever. It's weird bc I feel like we're babying the older one more but they just have diff personalities.

I went thru this with DS - it lasted forever
At first we had to be in his bed touching him
Then I moved to the bean bag for a long time-
Then I stood by the doorI will say those nights in the bean bag were kind of nice I brought my kindle in there and read - it was quiet and I was pretty relaxed

But my LO has never been super cuddly in general (even as a newborn) so has never asked/needed us to do this. More often she needs a cuddle when she wakes up vs when she goes to sleep. We did CIO she was 5 months old.. since then she has fallen asleep alone. I don't think those two necessarily have anything to do with each other since I know plenty of times, CIO babies becomes toddlers who develop attachments to parents in the room. But ours just doesn't give a crap if we are there or not. Now her paci, on the other hand...

I do! DD is note quite a full fledge toddler yet (she will be 15 mo soon), but I lay with her at night while she rolls around. I kinda have to since we bedshare and I don't want her to climb off the bed. But I foresee still sitting with her if she goes back to her own bed later on.

I would have voted no, but with no cry it out. He does cry sometimes, by hen we go back inane do an extra hug, etc. usually only need to go back one time.

No, I don't. My son is two and a half, and he's pretty good about putting himself to sleep. Sometimes he'll stay awake a little bit and talk to himself or look at books, but he doesn't need me in there with him

My 3 yo sleeps with me. He was in his own bed for a while, but he kept getting out of bed and coming to ours in the middle of the night, so eventually we just let him sleep with us. I figure he'll eventually want to go back to his bed, but I'm not really pushing it.

I do. I don't really mind unless it ends up taking forever. Usually, I check email, facebook, etc (I turn away from her and hide my phone), and then sneak away once she's asleep.

I voted other. I wouldn't cry it out, but no way am I laying there. After he goes to bed is the only time I get for me. We were really careful not to start that habit and we are able to give him a hug and kiss and walk out. If he's having a hard time we'll go back for hugs, but he knows we're not staying.

Xander is still in a crib (and this is one of the reasons I don't want to switch to a toddler bed), so nope. CIO all the way here!

Pretty much every night!
LO is a night owl and I found out from an early age, requires very little sleep... just like mama. He stays up late and wakes up early and doesn't take naps. Doesn't get cranky either, unless you try to force sleep. So we roll with it.Most nights and weekends DH is working late. LO and I go to bed together (around 10pm). By morning, sometimes he's moved out of the bed, sometimes he removes himself, sometimes he stays.
But unless it's a rare night where he falls asleep early and I take him up to his bed, we're together. -
No, I don't and never have laid down with my kids for them to fall asleep. I don't have the time or patience for that, plus I have twins so that would be unfair to the one who I don't lay down with. But I get why people do it and if it works for you, I wouldn't stress about it!

She never has trouble going to sleep on her own at bedtime so we don't have to lay down with her. But we do still have trouble with her waking up in the middle of the night and coming into our room. Then if we walk her back to her bed, sometimes she will cry for a minute before falling asleep again. Or sometimes she just sleeps with us

Yep, for a long time when he was younger. As he got older, we started just sitting next to his bed until he fell asleep. Over time it started taking longer for him to fall asleep (used to be 15 min and got up to 45 min!) so we did some sleep learning right around age 3. Now we stay for 5ish minutes to pat his back and he falls asleep on his own after that.
I say if something works, don't fix it until it's broken! -
Nope. But we don't really do CIO either. She goes down easily and if she does whine or cry we let her do so and within a few minutes she's usually asleep. Crying is rare for her, though.

No, we never have for LO 1 and 2. They share a room now And they talk a little before they fall asleep.

@hilsy85: I wish this would work but honestly she keeps her hand on me to make sure I don't leave. I have to wait until I feel the hand get heavy to know she's out.

We don't have to lay down with him (nearly 3) but we have to sit with him in his room within sight until he is asleep. Thankfully at least my 1yr old goes to sleep completely on her own.

Never. We are very pro-CIO and are lucky to have good sleepers. I didn't want to get in the habit of co-sleeping or bed sharing, so they've always slept in their own beds, even if they're sick.

No, but DS pretty much prefers to sleep on his own. We have #2 due in May and we'll see how he feels about the matter!
@Mamaof2: My coworker has a son who is in 4th grade and she STILL sits in a beanbag chair in his room every night for like 45 minutes until he falls asleep. She says it gives her a chance to keep up on her reading so she still does it!
