My son had his 4 month check up today (incl shots, so sad!!) and his weight gain is very slow/non existent. He is EBF, and his overall weight gain since birth is in the normal range, but the last 4 weeks have been very, very slow. He has grown 3cm and his head circumference is in the 50th percentile, but he just can't seem to gain weight. For the last 4/5 days I've started feeding him every 2 hours even when he doesn't seem hungry, he doesn't spit up very much and feeds well at all times...I'm just not sure what to do!! The doctor wants to wait and see and keeps saying not to worry but I just think surely this can't be normal!?
Do any of you lovely moms have advice? Anyone been through this? He's EBF, never had formula and we haven't started him on any solids yet.

I'm pretty sure it's normal for weight to kind of begin to plateau around that age. I just checked LO's weights and saw that she really slowed down at 4 months. Less than 1 lb between 4 and 6 month check-ups. The key is staying on their own growth curve.

@ScarletBegonia: What does your LO's weight history look like up until now?
Four months is roughly the age when babies will often "catch up" or "catch down" to their natural / genetic weight. For example, a baby of small parents who was big at birth might start to level out and "catch down" to the growth curve they'll likely follow going forward.
Providing your LO is still having plenty of wet and dirty nappies and is gaining in height and head circumference, I wouldn't be too worried just yet

Just went through his record book, it looks like this (in g as I'm in Australia):
Birth: 3470g
Discharge: 3500g (was above birth weight @ 4days pp)
3 wk: 4140g
6 wk: 5110g
3 mo: 5745g
4 mo 5880gEverything bar the weight is great as far as I can tell! He has plenty of wet nappies, poops at least 1X/day, sleeps well, is generally very happy. He has excellent head control according to the GP and can roll front to back, nearly back to front. To me he looks totally in proportion, just little.

@ScarletBegonia: it could be that he's just finding his natural curve but have you thought about having a consult with an IBCLC just for the piece of mind? Feeding every two hours is probably a good idea and LLL recommends 8-12 feeds a day at this age (I think!!) but an IBCLC might be able to spot any potential latch or feeding issues.
Eta - did your Dr suggest doing another weight check in a month or so?

That's a good idea, I don't think its a latch or supply issue but it may very well be!
She suggested checking again in 2 weeks, but that's because I'm flying to Canada for a holiday after that and she wants me to either start solids or start supplementing on the trip if his weight hasn't increased. -
Is he fussy after eating? My lo wasn't gaining weight around 2 mos and it was supply issues. She used to fuss after eating and nurse for long periods and frequently before we figured it out

@nana87: no, hasn't been fussy with feeding since about 6/7 weeks. I let him feed as long as he wants and he usually pops off after 10 or so minutes? I think its because we've gotten more efficient at feeding, but it could be something else maybe.
I just don't know!!
