That was me! Actually I also had a number of bleeding episodes and placenta previa. Baby's percentile dropped from 40th at 15 weeks to 14th at 19 weeks to between 11th and 14th throughout 3rd tri. Towards the end it was concerning that his abdominal circumference was in the 3rd percentile.

Are you doing nonstress tests and/or bloodflow Dopplers weekly? They should be monitoring your baby to make sure he continues to do well.

LO was born at 6lb 4oz and at a week old he is doing great. I was induced for high blood pressure that a MFM nurse first noticed at 37w6d and the OB noticed the next day. Since I actually went into TTC taking a med that can cause IUGR I was mentally prepared for him to be small, although 5.5lb is not too bad actually.

LO is right at the point where preemie sizes are tight but NB is way too big! I just had to order preemie diapers because his torso is small and NB is totally wrong for him.

FWIW, the MFM was never able to find a cause but the OB found an area of scarring on the placenta when he delivered it and felt that might have been it.

My friend's baby was in this situation and he was about 5 lb and he just had his first birthday and is doing wonderfully

First pregnancy LO measured extremely small like under fifth percentile. I had twice weekly biophysical.profiles and a regular appointment from the time they caught it around 35 weeks I think. I was induced at 39 weeks simply due to size and the risk of problems with the placenta. DS was 5lbs 12oz. There were no issues with the placenta. He was and still is just very small but otherwise very healthy. It is super stressful but the vast majority of the time everything is perfectly fine. And it's usually easier to push out a small baby.

@runnerd: hang in there, lady! Hoping that you and baby F are both healthy and that he gets here safely. LO didn't have growth issues inside, but she is a peanut-16th percentile at 9 weeks.Small but mighty!

DS was measuring on schedule and at my 35 week scan, he was measuring at 32 weeks instead. I also had very low amniotic fluid levels. I did weekly dopplers and NST scans. All his vitals and organs looked fine in the ultrasounds, but he was measuring small. At 37 weeks, he hadn't grown any and my fluid levels were still low despite being on bedrest so I was induced later that week.

DS was born 4lbs 13oz and is almost 11 months old now! He remains in the less than 5 percentile compared to his peers, but he's growing and thriving. For his size, he's perfectly proportional, if not slightly chubbier! ha! Just compared to his peers of the same age is he "small". As the pedi calls it, he just started out lower on the launching pad; and has plenty of time to grow and stretch out!

We started having concerns around 35 weeks but everything still looked good in terms of blood flow, fluid etc. At 37 weeks we got the official IUGR diagnosis because fluid levels were borderline and we could see placenta calcification. Because blood flow was still good we were just monitoring everything. At 38 weeks I had a membrane sweep to see if we could get things going naturally but nothing happened. At 38+5 I had another sweep and later that day went into labor naturally but ended up with a c section due to fetal distress. I was semi expecting it because I knew that sometimes the little ones with low fluid don't tolerate labor well. My kiddo was 5.5 lbs and has usually hovered closer to 50th percentile. One thing that was really hard for us in the beginning was breastfeeding. He was just really sleepy and with his teeny tiny mouth it was hard for him to latch on. If I had to do it again I would have started pumping earlier to try and get my milk in faster and used an SNS but my hospital was not really supportive and gave him bottles causing nipple confusion etc. it ended up taking about 6 weeks to get it down and was very stressful because we were concerned about his weight but in the end it was worth it.

My first was IUGR. I was induced at 38 weeks with her, it was a super easy labor and she had no complications. She was 5lbs 2 oz, but left the hospital at 4lbs 11 oz. she's 19 months now and totally average sized. In the 50-60 percentiles. We are taking her to see if she has an expressive speech delay later this week though. Expressive speech delays are more common in IUGR babies for some reason.

If your first is IUGR, there is about a 25% reoccurrence, I believe. For this pregnancy, my doctor put me on baby aspirin right away because it has been shown to help with placental issues. This baby so far is trending larger than my first, but still losing in percentiles.

I know it can be scary, hang in there, do your kick counts and call your doctor if anything feels off. You are almost there!
