I have the word "esperanza" on my foot (it means hope in Spanish and has personal significance to me). I also have the Arizona flag on my wrist (AZ is my home state and I got the tattoo after moving far away).

I have a bird and Bible verse on my back/Shoulder, a Bible verse in Hebrew on my collar bone, stars on my shoulder, an anchor on my wrist, "hakuna matata" on my foot, and a treble clef on my ankle.

I have a butterfly on my shoulder. It's beautiful, but I hate that I spent so much money on it and it hardly ever sees the light of day. I want to get one for DS, maybe a little giraffe. I'm undecided.

I have been considering a bird, partly because that's what DH and I decorated our wedding with so it has meaning to us. So I've become obsessed with birds. We use the ceramic birds from our wedding on our mantel now. And we chose to do DS's room in owls.
When/if we have a girl, we'll use the rest of our bird memorabilia in her room.

No. I think they're beautiful, but my mom pulled the "they're against your religion thing" when I was a kid (we're Jewish) which I later learned was a lie, but now I just can't seem to get one.

I'm planning to get one for M soon. I've decided it'll be a winding dragon with her english & chinese name weaved into it. We've always said we'll get a tat for our kids. It's about the only thing I would want permanently on my body. My husband will probably get a dragon too for M.
I'm trying to find a tattoo artist to design it for me.
@cyndistar3: did that hurt??? That's one of the locations I'm thinking of.

@JoJoGirl: I'm pretty sure it's just a myth. It must be..... my mom let me pierce my ears, and that shouldn't be ok either if you're supposed to leave this world the same way you came!

@JoJoGirl: Maybe I should ask the rabbi..... but honestly I like not knowing the real answer because then I can tell my LO she's not allowed to have a tattoo because she can't be buried in a Jewish cemetery It worked on me!

I have this exact tattoo on my back left shoulder. Well actually, the artist added some shading and subtle variations where it looks even better! I knew I wanted a winged music note (I love birds and music) so two years ago I google'd "Wing music note" and this came up, and it was exactly what was in my head!

I don't but I've always thought about getting one for my kids! I'm a big chicken though - a nurse who is afraid of needles! Does it hurt? Do I just think I'm a bigger wimp than I actually am? lol
I love it when tattoos have such beautiful art and meaning! My ex-BF from college got a serpent tattooed on the back of his neck just because his sister and her boyfriend did it! This coming from the guy who never wanted to be inked! Ugh!

I have a pink flower on the small of my back (18th birthday random "mistake") and a blue butterfly on my left foot that I love. It represents my cousin who passed away at 8.
I have talked about geting something for my children, but I have no idea where I would want it, I think I would want their names printed.

@artbee: How interesting! I'm not Jewish, but I worked at a JCC and they always said no tattoos & no peircings. It's cool that your temple is a little more relaxed.

@artbee: I talked to my rabbi about getting my ears pierced--Torah significance? In the sabbath year/jubilee year when servants were freed of their debt to their masters, they could CHOOSE to stay with their masters and would get an ear or nose piercing to show their loyalty/willingness to stay subserviant....
(My mom said I could get my ears pierced if I talked to the rabbi and still wanted to after. I got my ears and belly pierced.)
BUT I don't have any tattoos.

An Anchor on my right foot which has double meaning for me...being in the Navy and also for Saint Philomena (my confirmation name).
A heart with a foot in it on my left foot (friendship tattoo)
Then the two on my back some what combined. Egyptian Hieroglyphics for Strong willed with a large burning phoenix under it.

I have 4 also. both feet, the inside of my ankle and a tiny one on my rib. my hubby is so not a tattoo person, I had 3 already when we met and told him there was one more I really wanted. he took me to get it and made me promise no more! it's in my grandma's handwriting and says "sew buttons on ice cream"
