Viviana just gave me the scare of my life. I was sitting on the living room floor with her, reading a book while she played with her toys, when she made a little gurgling sound.

I looked up and her face was totally red and her eyes were wide and she looked terrified. I fished around her mouth and could t find anything, but she didn't appear to be breathing. She wasn't making any sound but she looked so scared.

I did the baby Heimlich maneuver I learned in my CPR/First aid class, and the third time a piece of plastic came flying out of her mouth and she gasped and coughed and started wailing.

It was the lid to my contact lens case. I have no idea how she got ahold of it - I left it way out of reach on the kitchen counter. I feel horrible (what would have happened if I hadn't noticed right away?!) about it. I'm still shaking, although she seems totally unfazed and is happily playing now.

If you haven't gotten certified in CPR/first aid, go do it now! It's so very worth it. I can't imagine what would have happened if I didn't know what to do in that situation.
