I can't even imagine the horror their families must feel. It's been keeping me up all week. Please join me in a prayer for their safe return. I am not of any religion so I just sort of pray to the universe. You pray to whatever you believe in. Bring those girls home!!!!

Yes, I too have been thinking of and praying for these stolen girls for weeks. It's such a heartbreaking situation. I just can't even imagine.
When I first heard the news story, it immediately reminded me of a movie called Girl Rising, which follows the stories of six girls from around the world who are desperate to get an education but face extraordinary obstacles. It's a harsh reminder of the gender inequality that still exists in so many cultures. I definitely recommend seeing it.
I do wish there was something more we could do to help these girls...

I am glad that this is finally getting some traction and people are paying attention. These girls have been missing since April 14th, it is unthinkable. Hopefully everyone keeps posting on social media to keep the pressure on authorities worldwide to find them and bring them home.

@plantains: I was definitely mad when I found out it's been nearly a month since the girls went missing and this just started hitting social media. I'm glad we're finally getting involved. Did you see they released the names of the missing girls? Broke me heart - made it so real. Each and every one of those sweet girls has a family, people who love them - I just cannot imagine the pain and heartbreak.

@plantains: I was thinking the same thing. Today they said they'd been taken XX days ago (I forget how many days) on the news and I was like - wait a second- THAT LONG? I feel like I just heard about it. I wish this had been bigger news, sooner, it's so horrific.

I wish there was something I could do to help - something that feels more real than just donating money or talking about it on social media. My heart just breaks for every single one of those girls.

I just feel at a loss... what is it that we can really do to actually help? Is the social media campaign that's going on right now actually going to influence world leaders? I sure hope so, but I'm cynical.

It helps that these girls and their country are not forgotten. Acts of terror can often be a precursor to genocides and civil wars. If groups like the Taliban are allowed to carry on virtually unnoticed then nothing will ever stop them. Sometimes it's about measures to keep areas surrounding safer and sometimes it's about a rescue mission but awareness is very important!

@wonderstruck: @daniellemybelle: the social media campaign is what actually got people to pay attention on a global scale. Nigerians have been protesting since the girls were taken but international attention does wonders for getting people to realize that this will not blow over. The more people clamor for something to be done, the more world leaders feel compelled to weigh in in turn putting pressure on the powers that be to take action or be perceived as not caring about young girls.

I am watching PBS News Hour (yes, that's my wild Friday night) and they have some specialists talking about the situation. They have an interesting perspective that I hadn't thought about; some experts are actually concerned about all the press it's getting. They fear that putting Boko Haram in the "limelight" around the world will actually help them get recruits and might propel them from a small, local operation to a more widespread and powerful terrorist group. You can't win...
