My LO is 15 weeks (14 weeks adjusted). After easing the Bedtiming book suggested by @mrsbee, we want to try to sleep train at the end of this week when Lo is 16 weeks. He's pretty much only been rocked to sleep and rocked to sleep at night wakings. We have a bedtime routine, white noise and we plan to swaddle because he seems to flail around a lot. He can bust out if the swaddle sometimes though.

He got sick two weeks ago so we have him sleeping with us on his tummy to help with the congestion but he's better now and we are ready for him to sleep on his back in the crib. He was having several night wakings and had a hard time settling down at night. It would take 4 or 5 times of rocking him back to sleep before staying asleep. But on his tummy he's gone 6:30-11:20 and 12-4 and 4:30-6:30 am with feedings at the two wakings. So he can do it on his tummy but not on his back.

We are thinking of doing controlled crying with checks (Ferber). I'm so nervous! I have some questions for experienced moms and dads who sleep trained.

1. Is 16 weeks too early to stop swaddling? Will it hinder his ability to sleep if we don't swaddle?

2. Did you set a limit of how long you'd let your baby cry before you stopped and picked him up or did you just let him keep crying? What if he cries for 2-3 hours on the first night?
I just have a feeling it's going to take him a long time and I'm worried he can't do it.

3. Any words of wisdom as we get ready to start?

4. Tomorrow (Sunday) I'm going to start putting him down drowsy but awake and let him fuss and cry some before I go back to either pick him up or pat him to sleep. We start sleep training on Friday. Any tips on how long I should let him cry?

Thank you! I love reading the boards here!
