We've had a lot of changes in the past few months - the addition of HB Gold, board changes (like HB Introductions), the different features associated with that, the Classifieds...
Recently I told two IRL friends about the board but I worry that it can be a little overwhelming at first. Lurkers (or old lurkers), did you find it difficult to navigate st first? Were you confused with some of the features, rules, or etiquette? Or am I being silly and it's all stupid simple?

Good point! I could be wrong but I thought at sign up you get a "welcome" email?

@regberadaisy: There might be, I honestly don't remember. But what if they just lurked without signing up and getting that welcome email? What if they just watch and don't understand and decide to go elsewhere because there's no how-to?
Does that make sense?

Maybe it's because I've been a member for several months, not forever but before those changes, but I think the site is pretty easy to navigate!

@regberadaisy: To see the 'Site Basics' you first have to scroll past a lot of buttons and a few advertisements, the 'Recent Blog Posts', 'Recent Board Posts', another advertisement, the 'Classifieds', the statistics boards, before you get to them. They're way way way down at the bottom. If you're just doing a quick look, it's a lot to go through just to find a FAQ
@mrbee: Those are exactly what I mean but they're a bit hard to find if you're just looking at the front page.

I thought it was pretty easy to get the hang of. The only thing I had trouble with was some of the acronyms, but there's a page explaining those.

@MamaMagpie: @Ash: I wasn't trying to say they were particularly difficult, just maybe a little overwhelming if you don't know the lingo or are trying to make a post to classifieds and don't understand that you have to be Gold, etc. Small stuff.

@mrs. 64: Yeah but you have to scroll way way way down to the bottom to find it. Maybe I'm slow, it took me a month and a half to find that page. Before that I just sorta stumbled along and made up my own acronyms for the acronyms. Some of them were pretty funny...

Sure, we could look into creating a little toolbar that appears for first-time visitors and links to a welcome page with basic FAQs. Would that address the issue better?

@mrbee: Maybe instead of just for first time users, we could put a 'Welcome!' or something above Say Hello to Baby. Make it a button (which I originally thought it was when I first found the site) to link back to the FAQ?

@NaturallyCathy: I get ya! I'm just used to stumbling around to figure things out... I think the faqs helps a lot... but I agree with making it easier for newbies to find.

@mrbee: Maybe putting something where the "Subscribe" is on the top left. And then if you are signed in you won't see it just like the subscribe goes away if you've signed up.

I found it to be super easy. An hour spent clicking around everything on the site, and jumpin' right on in with posting was my method!
