Was just a out to buy LO one of these because several mommies I trust say their LO loooooves it but was reading reviews on amazon and saw several that said theirs caught on fire where the batteries are inserted ?!?!? Now I'm nervous. Anyone had this issue ???
Also, how/when do you use yours ? When we put LO down for the night he is already asleep. DH rocks him to sleep. Will this be more of a help when we sleep train to help him get himself to sleep ?

Ummm...that is absolutely terrifying about the batteries. I have one, but my daughter shows zero interest in it. She's 10 months now, and we've had it since 6. I pull it out every so often, but she barely even looks at it.

We have one and I use it multiple times each night (part of our bedtime routine). We haven't had any problems.

Never heard of that before. My son likes it- we've used it since he was born. He's a year old now and before we say goodnight to him we turn it on and leave it with him in his crib as he winds down. At some point before I go to sleep I go in and take it out- only because he rolls around so much when he's sleeping and has accidentally turned it on & woken himself up.

Yikes! Subbing since we were gifted one too. We're told their kids loved it! I think @photojane:s LO has it and loves it too. Never heard about the fire thing! That does make me worried. Maybe no unsupervised play with it?

I never heard of the battery thing. DD has one, it does not put her to sleep but stops her from hysterically crying at night and when she wakes up she will talk to her seahorse.

My LO has it and loves it! We turn it on during naps and at night but she normally doesn't turn it back on by herself so it's not on for too long. It looks like a lot of the fire issues were when they were changing the batteries? I don't know but now I'm freaked out! It's one of her favorite parts of her sleep routine though!

We had a gloworm, it was an important part of my son's naptime and bedtime routines for a good year. The seahorse, not so much, so maybe try the glo-worm one?

Yikes. I never heard of the battery thing before. You'd think there would be a recall or something.
DS is 5.5 months and we just started using it. We set him in his crib for naps and turn it on. Sometimes it works to get him to sleep.

There are like 700 reviews and I think I counted 6 that said the battery pack caught fire/melted. I feel bad for scaring folks whose LO love it. I still want one but am nervous too

@coacheswife123: I just read them and sent SO an email saying effective immediately no more sleeping with seahorse. We have a glow worm so he can use that instead.

wow! we had thought about getting one. the thought of something actually catching on fire in my home is craaaazy! those poor people, i can't imagine what that day was like . . .

We have a glow worm too so maybe at her next nap I'll see if she notices a difference between the two.

No problems for us. For awhile we used it to help soothe LO to sleep after we put her in the crib. She'd stare at the glowing belly. We recently brought it out again (she's 10 months) and she plays with it while she's in her crib either waiting for us to come get her or while she winds herself down for naptime.

what the heck!! ahhhh!! I'm freaked out but I only use it to put her down, and it only lasts about 5 minutes. I just changed the batteries because the stock batteries died. I feel like if this were common they'd recall them?
LO hates the gloworm. the face shines and she likes to snuggle the seahorse's face, that doesn't shine (in her eyes, i mean). and the music is so, so loud!

@coacheswife123: well if it helps at all, I just changed the batteries and nothing glowed or melted! maybe it was a bad batch? that seems so weird that out of those tons and tons of reviews, there's very few with that issue - granted it's a serious issue, but I feel like if it were a true item defect more would be melting...idk though! I was also confused by someone's complaint of FP's customer service - they were unbelievably fantastic last time I dealt with them for the RNP!

@sorrycharlie: I know !!! There were literally hundreds of 5 star reviews !! Really strange. One person did say they used rechargeable batteries and that's when it caught fire but they used regular batteries with the replacement and all has been fine with that one !

@coacheswife123: hmm.. maybe pick one up and change the batteries to check it out, then if all seems well use it? I got mine from target so it was instant gratification 
target also sells the glo worm! so you could try both.
I bought the glo worm at first because I had one as a child so I was all excited, but she is not a fan the batteries in the seahorse were dying the other night and it sounded so demonic so I took it away, and she was so distraught - LOL! she slept terribly. we changed the batteries the next day and I think that's when I posted the picture of her smooshed all over it!

If you're concerned, call the company and see if it's an issue! I wonder if some people put the absolute WRONG kind of battery in there (not a regular duracell or something)....
