I used to make book covers with Calendar paper or Brown paper bags!
There were a few kids in my class who bought fancy shmancy covers though.

@chopsuey119: I know. I was talking to DH the other day about it when I bought my LO some crayons. I always wanted a new box of crayons each year but my mom would not get them for me. So I told DH that if LO asks I will get her a new box every year!

I totally did this but I used wrapping paper! I LOVED buying school supplies. I got a new set of pencil crayons every school year!

I made mine as well. A lot of people had fabric stretchy ones but my parent's weren't about to buy something we could make.

I used brown paper bags sometimes. But most of the time I used the papers from those huge calendars that my mom would bring home from the korean market. LOL. Those papers were da bomb!

I used brown paper bags too. I wonder what kids use these days. At least where I live, grocery stores pretty much only use plastic.

we definitely made our own covers for years! then they started selling those stretchy fabric ones and we were all over that. mine were all bright annoying colors.

I used brown paper bags too. Then you could decorate/doodle on them.

We used brown paper bags (which I hated because I always drew on them and I'm a HORRID artist) or the cheapy free ones the school gave us.

I used to either use brown paper bags, or the local Army recruits would drop some fancy ones off in the office and I would use the white side of them so I could doodle all over them!

@mrsjyw: OMG. One day I was drawing/writing on my book cover and noticed my dad hovering. All of a sudden he says "Hey yuhboh (wife), YS LOVES jin gyu." I was doodling that I loved this guy I had a crush on! And dad saw! I was so embarrassed!

@mrs.bee: I remember trapper keepers! I loved those! I used to also get 5 peechee folders and tape them together, one for each subject.

Hah! This thread = love. Seriously, I get giddy thinking of taking future kids school supply shopping!!
We used brown paper bags (so sturdy, honestly) and then when those cool stretchy ones came out (that ripped in a week!) my mom bought me one. I thought it was so cool, navy blue with stars..sigh.

I did. Usually it was with brown paper bags or even wrapping paper.

Yup, I did. I usually used a brown paper bag. I think I used newspaper from the comics section one year.

I loved getting new school supplies but we never had book covers. I don't think anybody at school did, it just wasn't a big deal around here I guess. We always just wrote our name on the inside cover so we could tell who the book was being used by.
At the school I teach at now they aren't allowed. Too much of a distraction I guess? Plus we swap books out pretty frequently (every couple of units) so it would be a pain to have to move the covers as well.
