This one comes from a comment by looch... she mentioned that she signed up for a gmail for her LO. So smart!
Did you signup for an email address with your LO's new name?

I considered it and was halfway through the process when I changed my mind because I thought I was being a bit crazy. But maybe now I'll do it for real!

@Miss Adia: I think the main reason is to save your LO their exact name in gmail?
So they don't have to be Charlie.Bee.007@gmail.com.

I don't even have a Gmail. Unless my hubby made one for me, but I don't use it. She'll just have to wait.

@Miss Adia: Wondering the same thing.
I attend a university where at least 3 other people share the exact same first and last name and middle initial as me. One has a birthday one day off from mine even. So my email address was a lost cause anyway, haha. I don't mind having an email with extra numbers and letters, or even sharing my full name with the other students. As long as none of the others become murderers or anything... that wouldn't be fun.

We send emails to my parents "from" our LO. My parents get a kick out of it.

Yes, I wanted to reserve it for her. I already was unable to get her name. I had to insert her middle initial but at least I didn't have to use numbers.

Yes! LO sent her first email to her Dad on Father's Day. She also sent one to her Dad for his Birthday all before she was born.
I have had good intentions of sending emails to her as well (I had the idea before the commercial) so that she can read them later in life.

oh. I get it. I don't use full names for emails unless they are required like for work.

I don't think so. Gmail might not even be the thing anymore.

We did. After seeing that commercial of the dad writing his newborn baby we thought it would be great to E-mail her updates as we go along. It's a great way to journal about her life, milestones, and our thoughts/feelings, etc as she grows up. We think it will be great to have her read all these emails when she gets old enough.

I probably will! I love that google commercial even though it makes me bawl.

No--just like TANA_BK, I figure there's a good chance there will be another email service more popular in use than Gmail (IF Gmail is even still around) by the time our LO is emailing.

I did! I didn't want him to have to use numbers, wanted something short & sweet, and now we have a special e-mail we use to send pictures and such to grandparents.

I signed up as soon as we had a name picked out. Now, we send our daughter little emails here and there, documenting her milestones.
I've also signed her up for google voice which admittedly is a bit overkill

Yes we did! 2 versions
- firstname, 1st last name, 2nd last name
- firstname, 2nd last name
and I should make a 3rd, in case he wants to use the 1st last name rather than the 2nd
- firstname, 1st last name

That is a great idea! I thought about this when I was reading the other post about googling your LO's name. Once we have a LO, we'll definitely create a few Gmail accounts for them.

we'll see. first, i need to know the names! but even then, i'll bet you it'll already have been taken.

We're not even pregnant yet, but a while back I saved a gmail address for our future son since we're totally locked in on his name since my husband is a II, and our son will be a III.

We most likely won't do this. Like others have said, Gmail (or hell, e-mail entirely) might not be a "thing" anymore by the time our children are old enough to use it.
cherry / 242 posts
We did. While gmail may not be around, if it is, we at least have it reserved.

With Claire, yes. Several versions too, so that she has a choice! And I will do so for Aerin now — thanks for the reminder!
pomelo / 5866 posts
We tried to but it was taken. WE didn't come up with any alternates we like so we will let her figure it out.
