How did you find your cleaning service/lady apart from recommendations from friends? Are you there at home when they clean?

I'd be paranoid about my cleaning lady if I didn't know someone else who used them.... but I just don't trust random people in my house. Could you ask your facebook friends, I always see people doing that to try to find different things.
I have no advice, my cleaning lady's mom has cleaned my mom's house for about 30 years and she used to help, but her mom passed away so she took over. My mom's one of those people who will leave big bills out for all to see, and nothing ever went missing so I know that I don't have to worry. My mom isn't home when they clean her house but I'm home when she cleans mine because I don't work.

My cleaning ladies have always been from recommendations since I've heard too many stories about cleaners stealing valuables while you're not home.
I have been home and not at home. I've had no problems leaving the cleaner in the house since they have cleaned for my friends, too. But I probably wouldn't be comfortable if it was a complete stranger.

The cleaning service we use was recommended by DH's coworkers. Plus, the company offers english speaking housekeepers, which most japanese cleaning services don't have.

I found my cleaning service online. They're actually coming today for my first cleaning! I'll be home while they clean.
