@Caly: @knittylady: And their last name does nothing to help this!!! Spurgeon Seewald-->Spluge n' Semen. I swear my mind is not normally in the gutter, but this is all it makes me think of... poor kid.

Admittedly I follow nothing regarding that family so when I saw the title of this post I thought it was a joke. Poor baby! I hope they let him go by a nickname. I had no idea that was even a name at all.

All I can hear is Sturgeon Seaworld. Why couldn't they have used Charles if they wanted to honor the pastor? I agree Spur could be alright but Elliot would have been better.

I can't imagine calling a tiny cute little newborn Spurgeon. It just does not match.

@Truth Bombs: it really is, literally, the least offensive thing about that family. I'm still so upset that TLC is continuing to air their shows. Leaves a gross taste in my mouth. Kind of a Spurgeon-y flavor.

I just think it sounds like a new variety of fish... "Oh we just caught a spurgeon seewald! hoorray!"

@MoonMoon: ok I'm home on bed rest that comment made my day. I may have peed a little I laughed so hard, but it was worth it!

Aw man... I watched the video. I do love Elliott- maybe they will call him that? Jessa looks beautiful!

@Truth Bombs: don't know whether to feel bad or proud that I made a pregnant lady pee!

@MoonMoon: don't worry. Last night my high blood pressure make me puke and while puking I peed myself and wasn't sure if it was pee or amniotic fluid. So a little pee from laughing is nothing

@LuLu Mom: I'm not a huge fan of that phrase, but it is so so applicable to this situation!
If they called him Quincy before he was even born, what is the point of Spurgeon??? Does he have a middle name?
ETA - I see the middle name is Elliot. I'm even more astounded that they chose the name that that did. What were these kids thinking?!?

I mean, in a way I think it's better than all the J names misspelled for no good reason. Like Jinger is unforgivable. (And once upon a time I really liked the Duggars.)
It's really bad. But at least it is spelled correctly and has meaning to them. Jinger has no explanation.

He is such an adorable baby you'd thing any name would be good for him... NOT!!

I agree, it's not a pleasant sounding name. Does anyone else think of Moody Spurgeon MacPherson from Anne of Green Gables?

If they wanted to use the name, I don't get why they didn't use his first name (Charles) instead of his last name. Some last names make cool first names, but in my opinion that isn't one of them.

@lady baltimore: THAT'S where it's from! I kept thinking "Moody Spurgeon" but I couldn't remember where I had heard/read it, haha. Guess I'd better retread the Anne series, it's been a long time.
