I can't imagine going from "courting" to married to pregnant in less than a year or two. I wonder how the oldest girl - Jana - feels about her sisters getting married and having kids.

@TemperanceBrennan: I can't imagine having your first kiss with anyone, let alone your husband, and then having sex all in one day. Going from nothing to everything in like 5 hours, awkward.

How the hell are they all so fertile? It is horrible timing, but they live in a bubble and probably have no clue that it is IF awareness week since they can't even imagine it.

@Mrs. Pen: Thanks for sharing! That is just so sad... I just can't imagine growing up in that family! It is beyond me why they can't be accepting of a woman wanting to go to college. I think it is a very unhealthy environment in which to raise kids (to teach them they are less than for not procreating immediately and numerously, and for wanting other goals like college).

Meh, another Duggar pregnant, not surprising.

@mrscobee: @blackbird: yeah. Typically I am a do what you want, it's your family and none of my business type of person. So when another Duggar gets pregnant, I'm happy for them cause that's what they want to do. But when they try to tell their grown daughter she can't do someone because she's a woman, I have a problem with that. I think if I were in that family, I would have serious rebellion.

@Mrs. Pen: Totally agree. I, too, come from a conservative Christian family but I can't imagine having my life planned/dictated for me by my father in absence of a husband. It's really sad.

@Mrs. Pen: That’s what I find most uncomfortable about this family – that out of 19 kids, not even 1 has rebelled yet? Yikes. It takes more than “good parenting” to get that kind of lock-step from 19 unique individuals. Most good kids still question things from time to time, or take teenage risks.

I hope that story about Jana is true. She is 25, she’s a grown woman and capable of making her own decisions for her life. I think it would be healthy for all of them to get out into the world on their own a little (or a lot) more. And if she's only looking to go to Bible College.....well, seems pretty safe to me.

As for the pregnancy announcement, it isn't really a surprise - this is what they do, exclusively. I hope she has a healthy pregnancy, and I personally hope their celebrity fades soon.

@Smurfette: I think the issue is more about wanting her fathers approval, or so it seems. It takes a LOT of courage to go against your parents direct wishes. And I know Christianity teaches to respect your parents, so she might think she'd be disrespecting them by leaving against their wishes. It took me awhile too to know that I can still respect my parents but politely disagree with them.

@yoursilverlining: Yes to them fading soon! So tired of seeing them pop up on my news feed. I don't see how this is news anyways...wouldn't a story about them NOT getting pregnant be more newsworthy?

@Smurfette: @Mrs. Pen: @coopsmama: I lot of what I've read able Jana is that after her sisters left that all their responsibility went to her. So basically it's hard for her to do what she wants because she spends so much time basically running the house. Although on the show she doesn't seem unhappy. Maybe just a little quiet.

I don't watch their show regularly, but I might watch an episode if I happen to see it on.

@bluestriped bee: I watched last night just to hear the announcement and I caught his comments too. The one about the baby being both genders and then the look she gives him lol. I saw a pic of her bump elsewhere and everyone commenting how she looks way too big for first pregnancy with a singleton at 12 weeks.

To me the Duggers are just as bad as the Kardashians, not sure I can say that since I've never seen either show ;). "Reality" TV fame bothers me. I am thrilled for anyone who welcomes a new life without exploiting their growing family for a paycheck- we will see.

@jedeve: Whoa ... yeah totally different!! My husband's family is totally the cliche "Irish Catholic" family when it comes to making babies. There are already 18 great grandchildren (we have 1 child), and only 4 of us grandchildren have started having kids.

I love the Duggars! I wish they'd write a parenting book! Their kids are all so respectful, kind, well mannered and happy. The older kids are all models of chastity and wholesomeness which is so refreshing in this age of promiscuity and vice. I am Christian, so I do value the sanctity of marriage and am all for waiting to have sex. Contrast this with what I hear from my 11 year old stepdaughter about what transpires at her private school ... I am all for finding out what they are doing to have such consistent results among their kids.

I'm happy for Jessa and her husband! They're young, but seem way more mature than I was at their ages.
