I hope someone has some insight because I'm just at a loss. DS is 12 weeks old and he has been up every hour for the past few nights. I'm exhausted. He has been squirming and kicking his whole body around his cosleeper (he sleeps swaddled). This causes his binky to fall out, he starts crying, I pop it back in, repeat over and over. He'll eventually just end up wailing every 2 hours, and then I get up and feed him. What gives? This is the worrrrssst. Anyone else have a squirmy/up all night baby? Will this get better? I'm on the verge of tears here.

I stopped swaddling after a week, so I don't even know if this is a valid suggestion, but have you tried dropping the swaddle? all that thrashing could be him trying to escape?
I know my LO loved sleeping with arms up and legs spread at that age

@Penny Lane: I'm going to take him out of his swaddle and put him in a sleep and play. I'll try anything! Maybe he is sick of the swaddle. Babies. I wish they could tell us what they want!! Thanks for the suggestion

I think we stopped swaddling around then too. Or maybe even before that. It's worth a shot!

and there's no reason why you couldn't start reswaddling if it doesn't work. good luck!!

I agree with trying without the swaddle. Lo didn't have a swaddle very long, she was determined to escape from it every night. Good luck!

He fell back asleep pretty easily without the swaddle, but he still woke up in a fit almost exactly 1.5 hours later. The only thing that calms him is nursing. Gahhhh. Gas? Hunger because of a growth spurt? Hates to see me sleeping? Who knows

@Pepper: R never liked the swaddle so we put her in a onesie or sleeper with a sleep sack over it. The sleep sack makes it a little harder to kick her legs around and wake herself up. Sometimes R wakes up (like at 4:30 this morning) and makes noises but I'll wait to get up to see if she stops. She fell back asleep but of course I didn't! I hope your LO starts sleeping better soon!

I would try and ditch the swaddle and try a sleep sack. Could it be a growth spurt?

@Pepper: :((( Eeek, that stinks. Is this one of those wonder weeks? Or maybe the sleep regression early? How long does he normally sleep? We aren't at 12 weeks yet but I think there's a growth spurt around that time that you could be hitting. ::hugs:: Hope it gets better soon!!

@Bookish: He usually only wakes up once at like 4:30. He was up every 1-2 hours starting at 1:30 am.
Since he wasn't in the swaddle, he clawed the hell out of his face on the one side. Ugh! Can't win. Maybe I need one of those magic sleep suits.

How are naps? Also is bedtime late? Our LO sleeps fitfully (even now at 12 months) when she's overtired. Around 3 months was when we realized that bedtime was also too late and we reexamined routine and bedtime. I hope things get better for you!

@Pepper: Is it a wonder week? Maybe that is why he isn't sleeping as good.
We started the 4 month sleep regression at 14 weeks, so maybe he is going through that early. I really hope not, for your sake!

@autumn865: Naps haven't been great, and yes, he has a late bedtime. This is a really good suggestion. DH and I have been discussing putting him to bed at 8 (versus 10 pm now when I go to bed). Going to try this tonight!
@Smurfette: He has 5 days before a leap. This is supposed to be "sunny" right now. My husband keeps reminding me of this. "Isn't he supposed to be sunny? This doesn't seem like sunshine" haha.

Well, after an AWFUL day of screaming and crying and refusing to eat out of exhaustion this afternoon, I started LO's bedtime routine at 7 pm (we usually start it at 9). Hoping he goes down for the night without much issue by 8!! I've never put him to bed without going to sleep at the same time as him (he sleeps in a cosleeper). Fingers crossed!

He was swaddled, I removed the swaddle and put him in a sleep sack... still wide awake! No tears, just grunts and lots of movement.

A@Pepper: awww cute picture! My LO does.the groaning thrashing about every morning after her dawn feeding. I.discovered that when I place her on my chest, she is relaxed and no more fussing. Then after a while I put her back in PNP and she's fine
Gas maybe? Our new routine has been that I nap with her on my chest after her morning feeding. -
@Pepper: my DS is a restless sleeper
just like his dad! The two of them roll around, talk, grunt, grind their teeth, kick their legs, etc. all night long.
