We're currently house hunting for what we hope will be our forever home and one of the houses we're looking at on Saturday that looks very promising has our intended boys name in the street name. (ie Charles and Charleston Mills Drive or William and Williamsburg Run) Would that deter you from the house or using the name for your future child?

I guess it would, when we were house hunting, I ruled out some houses based on the name of streets, especially one that is the first name of my son, lol.

I don't think it would deter me, especially if it isn't exactly the same name and because the examples you mentioned are pretty familiar/common names.

I know a Madison that lives on Madison Street in Madison, WI! It was during college, so temporary, but still funny!
I don't think the street name would change my naming preferences, but I do remember the street name having a greater influence on house hunting than I'd care to admit.

meh, i'd be more concerned if the street name was weird. we had friends that lived on a street with "Creeper" in the name. there is no way i'd live on that street!! hahaha!

Our street is a male name and a street DH used to live on is a variation of the same name and we have actually considered both versions. I find it a little weird but it wouldn't deter me!
ETA I find it much stranger when people name their kids after cities! We live in MA and I know someone who named his son Boston. That I personally would not do, but street names are different.

You know, I do have to say that there's a Street in the city that I live in that's my ex's last name. I can honestly say that I probably wouldn't buy a house on that street!!

I was just looking at a house that is on a street that is essentially my entire first name! I just think its funny and would never not buy the house. Go for it!!
ETA: @MrsBrewer: There is a street that is the name of the only girl in my entire life who I do not like. I honestly have always thought I would have a hard time buying a house on that street so I feel you on the ex-boyfriend name!

For sure yes! If you end up with a future son it'll make it easier for friends and family to remember your street name! "Hmm I know it has a tie to John in it...yep Johnston street. There it is!"
I think it's cute is a way that you and your closest people will notice. No one else will -
I vote get the house. You could always change your mind on the name (or only have girls) but it seems that you actually need a house. If the names were similar I don't think it's a big deal.
ETA we also did not go see a house because of the negative name association.

Unless it was a really obscure name, it wouldn't bother me at all.

We didn't name our son our top choice because it was a neighboring street and elementary.

Street names I wouldn't worry about, but if it were like a town/district name, maybe.
Town and district names seem more "permanent" and would be like I named my child after it. More of the populous would think of that town or district.
But streets are pretty fleeting, and very very common. So not to worry.

@Chillybear: We lived on a street that was also a family name. And I really wanted to use it, because it was a family name and the street where we brought home baby. Still kind of disappointed that we didn't use it!

If my kid's name was William, I'd probably not want to buy a house on William Street (unless it was my dream house), but it wouldn't stop me from buying a house on Williamsburg Ave. It's just too different to me.
