We're going to Spain for a week this summer with our 19 month old. We definitely want a stroller for exploring and walking. We have an Uppababy Cruz and travel bag. But now I'm wondering if it is too bulky and annoying to bring? Should I get a cheaper umbrella? Any recommendations? TIA!

I think it depends on where you are going. We went to Barcelona when our LOs were 10 months and 3.5 years. I ended up taking our Bugaboo with ride on board because I was alone most of the time with the kids while my DH was at a conference. (Normally we take a Maclaren when we travel). It was fine most of the time. The only issues were taking the metro because sometimes there weren't elevators so I would have to ask someone to help me carry the stroller up and down the stairs. But most of the time we walked or took the bus. But the sidewalks were wide and in good condition in most places and I don't remember a big stroller being a problem in many shops or restaurants.

I agree with @lamariniere: , it depends where you are going. We used a Phil and Ted Vibe in double mode in Alicante last month and did a lot of walking with it. It was mostly fine, even using it on a bus, and not a problem in shops and restaurants. The balance of that particular stroller (tandem, one wheel at the front) made it difficult getting it up and down curbs sometimes and there were lots of steep curbs. but I was glad to have a more substantial stroller for the amount of walking we did, I would have struggled with an umbrella.

@Waterbaby: we did an airbnb since we were there for about 10 days. It was in the Eixample neighborhood, which had a good mix of shops, restaurants and transit options. But there are tons of great neighborhoods and it's hard to go wrong. If you decide to visit Park Guell, I would not take a stroller since access is mostly on escalators and when you get to the actual park, the stroller would be a nuisance. But the stroller can go pretty much everywhere else with no problem.

We bought a Summer Infant 3D Lite for when we took our LO to Italy and Portugal at 14 months. It handled hills and cobblestone in Tuscany. Urban Rome plus going through ruins and the Colosseum. Lightweight, held up great, fit into tight corners in restaurants. The only downside is you can't leave heavy stuff hanging on the handlebars if your kid isn't in it as a counterweight.
