How do you girls handle taking your babies in strollers out in the rain? Do you just use a rain cover over the car seat and let the rest of the stroller get wet?
I'm supposed to go to a birthday brunch soon and its raining pretty good out. The party is about 30 miles away and I'm inclined to not go at all now, but I hate flaking. My baby is almost 5 months but I haven't taken her out in the rain. Its supposed to be the most rain my area has gotten in a long time, so more than just a drizzle.

I would make sure the baby is covered and let the stroller get wet. Now I don't worry about DD getting wet because she likes it.

How long will you be out? If you are just running from car in an adjacent parking lot to the restaurant, I would put a blanket over the infant seat and carry it in quickly. Unless you think you will need to walk longer than you want to carry the seat?

@agold: I put him in a carrier, put a rain jacket over both of us, and hoods up. An umbrella can work too, depending on LO's curiosity

@Pollywog: Do you put your baby in the carrier while you are sitting in the car?
@Foodnerd81: Its just running to and from the car. Good thought about just carrying car seat. My stupid wrists are having pain so that's tough but I may consider it.
@Mrs. Pickle: So nice your baby doesn't mind getting wet! I never mind it myself so much since I have super low maintenance hair and such.

I have a rain cover for our strollers. It's honestly never really been an issue.

@agold: I think you're probably over thinking it but if you really want to avoid the rain could someone meet you at the curb and grab LO for you (assuming you're driving)?

@agold: yep, I hop in the back seat and get all ready in the car. We also walk the dog in the rain and walk to daycare in the rain. LO is used to it.

@Pollywog: You are great! I have walked the baby in the light drizzle. But today's rain was unreal - for me, at least!

I've never used a cover and live in Oregon. Heavy rain is just part of life here.

I have a rain cover, but DD has a thing for walking around, in any weather. She gets so mad about being in the stroller, she pushes the cover right off. If your baby acts like that, or if it's just very windy, there are big plastic clothes pins that can hold the cover down.
And bring some spare clothes in case you still get soaked. Hope you both stay dry!
