DS is what I would describe as a high needs baby. He has always preferred to be held and would scream when put down. In the past few weeks or so he has started getting better at being put down during the day and is finally extending his feeding times to 2 to 3 hours. Prior to this he was still eating every hour and a half to two hours so I couldn't even fathom trying to sleep train him or get him in his crib.

But now the time has come and he needs to start sleeping and napping in his crib. At night we've tried drowsy but awake and it never works so we rock him to sleep. As soon as we bend over to put him in his crib he wakes up and starts screaming. Not just crying, screaming. A few nights ago he cried on and off for three hours straight. DH and I alternated between checking on him and picking him up to sooth him. By the last hour he was screaming whether he was in the crib or in our arms. The poor guy ended up throwing up and sweating through his sleeper. I felt awful and we threw the towel in. At his age how long are we supposed to keep going? I'd rather not CIO at this point so I'm not really sure what to do. He's such a sensitive and over reactive baby so I'd like to do something gentle with him but I'm just not sure what that is. Does anyone have any suggestions that worked for their babies that escalate when put in the crib? And any tips on naps? Sometimes I fight him for an hour for a 20 or 30 minute nap! Any tips or similar experiences would be great to hear!
