Curious to know what others would choose in this situation. I have an almost 3yo and am due with my 2nd in March. LO is currently at a daycare we really like, but we are moving just a couple towns over and will need to switch. We are torn between two options for different reasons.
A bit about LO -- She is still rather attached to me and will still have rough drop offs at her current daycare, so I'm really dreading this move. She has become a threenager and has been throwing major tantrums lately when she doesn't get what she wants. She is semi-potty trained. She has to be told to go (and will sometimes resist) but has been accident free on most days. She's a smart little girl but I'm wondering if she's getting to the point where her daycare should be a little more school-like than it is now.
Added a poll, if easier.
Option 1:
- Same chain as current daycare, perhaps an easier transition.
- She could go straight to their preschool program with no problem. Kids don't have to be fully potty trained.
- Teachers and center director seem very nice and approachable, but I believe this location has a higher turnover than her current center. I've heard the teachers aren't as "invested" in the kids as are the teachers at her current location.
- Preschool and up have open concept classrooms at this particular location (half wall dividing preschool and pre-k). We toured around lunchtime and it was chaotic. My husband stopped over another time during classroom time and said it was better, but it still seems a little distracting to me.
- Location slightly more convenient than option 2.
Option 2:
- Center appears a bit more updated. Outdoor playground is being renovated and has a small indoor playroom for winter and rainy days.
- Preschool classroom seems much more structured and school-like.
- Have to be fully potty trained for preschool. She may have to start in early preschool until she's 100% or she could start in preschool and possibly have to move back if she isn't doing well.
- Center director doesn't seem quite as friendly. We only met the preschool teacher who, while I think she will be a good teacher, didn't seem to be as nurturing as the teachers at her current center have always been.
- Two infant rooms - one for non-mobile and the other for mobile babies.
- Infant rate should be about $100/mo less. Preschool rate is about the same.
- Location is a bit further, maybe 5 minutes.
