It sounds like the study was small and that there definitely needs to be a lot more research in the area.
What are your thoughts? Does anyone avoid BPA while pregnant?

I always avoid BPA as much as possible, but it's in a shockingly large amount of items including the lining of cans of food. Scary.

I always do my best to avoid it and have been even more conscientious since I got pregnant. It's a PITA because BPA is in everything. I stopped using the water cooler at work because the jugs contain BPA, and now have to schlep my own water from home...I decline receipts whenever possible because the thermal-printed ones contain BPA...I spend $$ on Muir Glen tomatoes because they don't use it in their can liners, and avoid most other canned foods as much as I can...

I didn't read the article, but since getting pregnant with my first I've basically gradually eliminated all canned food and try to avoid BPA as much as possible. Sometimes it's the biggest pain making/cooking everything from scratch, but I think in the long term it's important.

@PurplePeony: i didn't know about receipts! thanks!
BPA is scary stuff. it's found in lots of bizarre places- like the tubing for IVs. hopefully it's phased out ASAP, but i def think it should be avoided whenever possible, during all stages of life!

BPA isn't good for you, anyways. It's an estrogen mimicker. It seems like a no-brainer to me that it could affect pregnancy as it's already a bad thing

@LaughLines: I totally believe it. We always avoid BPA when possible ... It's so very hard to avoid it all together, but I am way more conscious of it.

BPA is scary! I avoid touching receipts whenever possible too. I"m going to do some research to find out what other products have BPA. We don't eat canned foods at all. But I'm sure there are tons of other products that have BPA in them!

I always try to avoid BPA.
I have a dumb question, I just bought new Pyrex leftover storage containers (to get rid of the plastic stuff) can I put the lids in the microwave? It says BPA free, so does that mean it's okay?

BPA is scary stuff. I avoided it as much as possible and still do. I only buy bpa free canned food and switched to all glass for food storage and water bottles. It's tough to avoid altogether but I have to imagine every bit helps!

WHAT? It's on receipts? I need to do more research into BPA. I know its bad but I'm not actively trying to avoid it, except in baby stuff.

I try to avoid it, but it's hard. Like what PPs have said -- receipts, canned foods, etc.

@Mrs Green Grass: I remembered reading that in a health magazine a couple years ago and have mostly phased out all canned food items!! I avoid them. I did find out that most of trader joes canned foods do not contain BPA though! But either way, I try to make my own thing from scratch - like black beans.

I can't say I am terribly surprised, messing with hormones during pregnancy seems like a recipe for disaster. We avoid BPA as much as possible but it is amazing how much it has permeated our lives.
@MrsBrewer: Probably it is ok but there are some other questionable things in plastic like phthalates which might still be in there despite being BPA free (I believe BPA is one type of phthalate?) It might make more sense to just put a glass plate over your food as it heats if you are worried about it. I found this link too which might be helpful:

@MrsBrewer: I personally don't heat plastic if I can ever help it; anything plastic is hand washed and not microwaved.
I believe it! I know I've read how BPA affects sperm count too. Who knows what the next plastic chemical will be that is dangerous... we try to stick to glass and stainless steel as much as we can but it's definitely difficult to avoid
