Talk to me about summer vacations! Are you thinking of going anywhere? If so, where?
We thought we might try to go camping with DD, but still deciding on that.

I wish we were taking a vacation! We originally were debating between South Dakota/Black Hills and Gatlinburg, TN but x'd those plans because of Covid.
I was thinking about just renting a VRBO locally for a weekend getaway, but I think we might just skip it this year.
Camping is a possibility since we bought a tent last year, but we'll stay pretty local.

We have two separate weeks booked at the (driving distance) beach. Both rentals are apartment-style, so we are keeping the reservations for now, figuring even just eating takeout on the porch and staring at the ocean will be a nice break (assuming the necessary states are open for travel at that point).

We are doing a week in July at a lake house (VRBO) with private water access. The case count in our state is also very low. Also a tentative visit to the in-laws in August, but we will have to see how it goes. Both are driving (though in-laws are a 12-hour drive with three kids...).

We are going for a week away, next week! We've tried to mitigate risks as much as possible. I bought a travel potty so we won't have to do potty stops, and we managed to find a house at the beach where the previous people are checking out Friday (according to the calendar) and we are arriving Sunday (doing sunday-sunday). So hopefully the cleaner will be in on saturday and we'll have 24 hours for it to air out before we arrive. The rental company assures they are cleaning appropriately for Covid, and washing all bedding in antiseptic laundry detergent, but I'll probably wipe down high-touch surfaces anyway, and maybe even bring our own sheets.
I'm pretty excited because we got a great deal (since it's still kind of early in the season and we booked it like the day the islands opened to tourists, so prices were lower to lure people back in.
It has a hot tub and a pool, plus it's in housing community with tennis courts/pickleball courts and that's all open now (byo balls, don't share with other families). And plus it's at the beach. I am SO looking foward to it.
This was our summer to go to Hawaii, and that's all cancelled and even if it magically reopened tomorrow, I'm not comfortable getting on a flight. So this will do for now (it's my 40th birthday, so I'll miss Hawaii, but I'll make DH take me next year.)

We are doing a vrbo rental at a lake house for a week in July with my in-laws. I do plan on bringing our own pillows and blankets and we’ll wipe down some surfaces when we get there. We’re also going to my parents’ house near the beach in August for a week or two. They don’t rent it out so it’s very low risk to go and DH can work from anywhere right now. My only concern is the drive but I plan on packing food and a little potty so we don’t have to go in any rest areas.

All our summer plans have been cancelled and we are trying to come up with new ones.
Depending how things are we may drive the 15+ hours to my moms later this summer or maybe to my SIL who is 12 hours away. Either one is a long drive with both boys.
I’d love to be able to rent a place on the beach for a week.

We just got back from a long weekend at the beach. We had rented a condo a few months back and decided to keep our plans. It was a 6 hour drive. We picked up drive thru for lunch and stopped only once to use the bathroom and get gas.
I packed lots of food to avoid any grocery stores though we did pick up dinner to go from a local restaurant one night. The unit had an exterior entrance and while there were people on the beach everyone kept their distance so we were comfortable. It was a much needed break so would recommend getting away if you are comfortable with it.

We have a week of vacation blocked off at the end of July. I'm trying to keep an eye on the number of cases in states with local beaches. I'm hesitant to reserve anything yet so we can keep our plans flexible. Ideally, we'd drive to the beach. If cases start to go up, we can head to my parents' place in the mountains for a week instead. Our Disneyland spring break trip was cancelled for obvious reasons, so it will be nice to go somewhere that's not our house for a while before school starts back in some fashion.

we rented a lakeside camp with my parents in our state. other than that, we're cancelling everything. my husband would be obligated to quarantine upon return from any out of state vacation, and we can't afford to take that time unpaid, nor do we want to use vacation days for it.
We'll hang out here, go to local spots, etc. I"m looking forward to minimal travel, actually!
