Happy MLK day bees!
DH and I were supposed to go on a "late" honeymoon in December to Jamaica but I cancelled it when I found out I was pregnant. I made the decision too soon since I miscarried a couple weeks later. Long story short, we want to go somewhere this summer but we really want to stay in the states. We're looking for something warm and relaxing. We went to Vegas 2 years ago and loved it but I don't want to go back anytime soon.
What places do you guys recommend?

Destin, FL or anywhere on the gulf has beautiful beaches if you want a beach. Hilton Head Island is nice too.

My DH and I went to San Diego & LA in May and it was wonderful! The beaches in southern CA are just stunning; we loved the great boutiques and galleries in Laguna and Newport beaches. Crystal Cove State Park was absolutely stunning as well. I can't wait to get back there!

@Smurfette: I looked into Destin! Are there any hotels/place to stay that you recommend? I don't like being surprised when I get somewhere. Hahahaha

@Ash: Every time we have gone we have used VRBO and have never had any issues. We usually go with other people, so the condo's are bigger. Since it is just your husband and you, you wouldn't need that much space.

@Ash: I should add we like to rent condo or house verses a hotel, that way we can do breakfast and lunch on our own verses eating out every meal. We like to splurge on dinner. Plus then there is more money for cocktails

Isle of Palms in South Carolina or although the weather could be really warm or not, we went to Mackinac Island this summer and LOVED it. We got upgraded to the honeymoon suite at the Lilac Tree Hotel, and it was fantastic.

@Smurfette: this is such a hard decision! I want someone to plan it for me... Planning Jamaica was way easier lol!
@Mrs. J: I've had numerous people tell me to go to Mackinac Island.. including my chiropractor! What kind of things were there to do?!

@Ash: We went on vacation last year, and we narrowed it down to 3 places and then I had DH pick. Told him it was cause he was the one finishing up with his masters, but really I didn't want to make a decision either. We went to St Thomas and it was amazing. Ended up being our babymoon at 10 weeks. I am going to miss the beach this year. No trips with new house and baby.

@Ash: what's cool is that there are no cars--just horses and bicycles. The taxis are drawn by horses! We rented bikes and rode around the whole island. There are lots of cute shops, fudge, live music, good food, fudge, etc. You can hike, bike, take a horseback tour, explore the fort/historical landmarks, just relax! There are beaches, golf courses, etc. The Grand Hotel is also something to see because it is so famous. All in all, it was fun and relaxing. It might have been more romantic if my inlaws weren't with us, but oh well! I would go back. If you take the ferry back to Mackinaw City, you can explore there or other nearby towns or the falls that are nearby.

@Smurfette: Ahhhhh, I'd love to go to St Thomas. Maybe I'll have the opportunity for our vacation to turn into a babymoon this summer. DH will pick the cheapest if I give him the option. Hahaha!

@Mrs. J: Thank you! The think that would benefit us going there is that we could drive to Michigan and save on a flight. That sounds like a lot of fun, honestly. :))

Somewhere along 30A on the gulf coast! It's so beautiful and like a dream! I'd suggest Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach or Seaside. You can rent a little place for just the two of you, rent bikes, explore the coast and more. It's such a great time

Jamaica was only going to cost us 3 grand at Couples Negril. I regret cancelling now.

You could go to Mexico. it's not very expensive! in fact we priced out a trip to Napa Valley and found it would cost us MORE than an all inclusive in Mexico...so...yay

@blackbird: That's what I'm finding! I feel like if we stay in the US it will cost us more than an all-inclusive when it's all said and done. I'm looking at Mexico right now... but still nervous to go there. My mom told us "anwyhere but Mexico!" lol!

@Ash: We went to Cabo in Nov 2011, not a fan. I think DH and I are in the minority though, but definitely will not ever go back to Mexico.

I recently had to cancel a Couples Negril trip, too! Boo.
If you're looking in the states, I recommend San Diego, or one of the beach towns surrounding it. We went there in November and it ended up being pretty easy to do it affordably. I think someone above recommended Isle of Palms near Charleston, SC---that's also a beautiful place for vacation!
