Wish me luck, I'm attempting to head back to the gym! If this doesn't work (ie. brings on the BH), I'm going to try again to find a yoga class or a pool.

@Mrs.Someone: Good luck!
Yoga in the mornings has been really helpful for me! I can definitely tell the differences in my body. I'd love to walk more but the heat is just unbearable and when it's cool in the evenings, I'm already settled for the night.

@Happygal: Thanks! I have been sticking to the various elliptical machines and free weights. I have a limited amount of time (1hr) to work out and shower because I bring DS with me and use the babysitting services. I try to do 35-40 mins of cardio and weights if there's time. I'd love to take a class but then I would have to deal with being sweaty until nap time. No thanks! haha.

How far along are you? 11 weeks, tomorrow
Baby # 1
Were you active before getting pregnant? Yes. I used to be a runner, but that tapered off after we got married! More recently, I'm into walking and hiking.
Do you have specific goals? I want to be sure to be strong during delivery and I don't want to look like the marshmallow man in my 3rd trimester. I want to be long and lean with a perfect little bump. Haha (yeah right). In other words, I'd love to keep my arms and legs looking good in shorts and tanks. I also want to get some energy back.
What type of exercise do you enjoy? Walking my dog (usually about 2 miles). Pilates, but can I do Pilates while pregnant?
Anything else? I need to change my eating ASAP! I'm giving in to any and all cravings. Yikes.

@catchafallingstar: dog walking is perfect at this point, right? I'm a week behind you. I think pilates is OK (although would check w/ dr) - I have numerous friends that have a done pilates during pregnancy, mostly specific prenatal programs though. I think there is some issue with certain positions/ab work once you get into the 2nd trimester? I feel like most good, qualified pilates instructors would be able to modify for you though! good luck.

Just got back from a 2-mile walk with Butters, thanks to this thread!!

@Catchafallingstar: nice! Butters is such a cute name, btw. Can't wait to get home to my girl (dog, haha) and go for a nice walk in the park.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: I did Pilates reformer training today! Do you do mat pilates? I loved it and can't wait to go for the 2nd training session. The classes fill up super fast at my gym though, so I'm concerned I'm never going to get in.
@Mrs.Someone: how did the gym go? Hope all is well.
@namaste: what type of yoga do you practice? I don't really know the difference between all the different types. I did hatha last time, and the instructor led us through a relaxation exercise at the end that actually made me fall asleep.
pomelo / 5228 posts
@Happygal: Not great, I left after 20mins (I usually stay on the elliptical for 40). Contractions haven't picked up at least, but I'm more tired than I have been. I could still be fighting the cold, but I just have a feeling that I need to move on. I found a pool nearby, but they have limited hours, so I'm going to look for some prenatal yoga classes too.
nectarine / 2808 posts
@Gigi2: Thanks! Butters is a sweetie pie! What kind of dog do you have?
nectarine / 2808 posts
@Happygal: Yeah, I used to do mat pilates. I really miss it! Do you tell them you're pregnant when you go?
pomelo / 5000 posts
@BakerBee: that's a long time to tread water! I think I had to come close to that amount when I took my scuba diving class. I sang a lot of songs and recited things in my head to pass the time.
@Mrs.Someone: it's good to know when to move on. My friends have enjoyed prenatal yoga not just for the exercise, but the camaraderie. I hope you find a good group!
@CatchAFallingStar: yes, I tell them I'm pregnant. I don't think we've really had to modify anything for me though, but I think it's important info to know!
pomelo / 5228 posts
@Happygal: I found a few options in my area, but the best one is tomorrow morning when I already have a meeting scheduled! Thinking about rescheduling my meeting, otherwise I'll have to wait a week. Probably better to wait since I also have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and I can discuss it with them.
I also found a "couples workshop" but I'll be 36w at the time and we already have a 4hr class that day. I sent it to DH anyway to see what he thinks

Late on the check-in here, but I'll still add mine! I FINALLY started wanting to eat normal, real, healthy food again last week, so I've been doing that as much as possible. I'm still pretty exhausted, but am no longer exhausted AND eating tons of gross processed foods.
Honestly, this week, I'm focusing on resting up. We're going on a vacation with my ILs next week, and MIL has every minute planned with super active activities. So I'm going to need my strength/energy! I'm going to hope for a few good walks with the dog and leave it at that.
pomelo / 5228 posts
Yay, I just found another place with prenatal yoga that has 2 good options for me each week I'm going to try it out on Wednesday I think.

@catchafallingstar: Butters is so cute!!!! Love her face! I have a golden (aging). I'm so excited to see her with a baby, she's naturally really calm and nurturing/loves little ones!

@Gigi2: I used to have a Golden. LOVE THEM! Butters has been around babies before and he's amazing. Very protective of them. I can't wait for him to be a big brother!

@Happygal: I'm a huge fan of ashtanga but lately it's been just different vinyasa flows depending on how I'm feeling that day. Here's a great guide for some of the most popular types: http://life.gaiam.com/article/beginners-guide-8-major-styles-yoga.
@Mrs.Someone: That's awesome! I hope you enjoy!
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@Gigi2: I have a golden too! Mine is 8 years old, so she is definitely not the best walking buddy - she gets sleepy after walking from her dog bed to the other side of the room.
@CatchAFallingStar: Gosh I love Butters.
@Mrs.Someone: You inspire me being so active. I feel like death warmed over most days. I may have gone to be at 7:30 PM last night... it felt like a first tri flash back.
@Happygal: Treading water is the only exercise that doesn't bother me, for some reason. I could do it for hours - especially if I have a friend with me. It gets a little lonely out there otherwise
cherry / 132 posts
@bakerbee: awww! My golden is 9. She's still pretty puppyish, but one long romp in the park and she's asleep for the rest of the day
@catchafallingstar: please tell Butters I'm sorry I called him a girl! He's very handsome. I'm sure he'll be adorable with your LO!
pomelo / 5000 posts
@Mrs.Someone: yeah! I'm glad you found something. Would your husband be into a couples class?
@namaste: thanks for that guide--very helpful? How long have you been practicing yoga for?
@BakerBee: I should give treading water a shot. My gym's pool is really nice and I know it's great exercise, but I get discouraged quickly when doing laps b/c I get so worn out.
@mfa_lady: I'm glad you chimed in, and the check in can be all week long. Where will you be vacationing? What kind of activities does your MIL have planned? Resting up sounds like a good idea with everything you have going on!
pomelo / 5228 posts
@BakerBee: Thanks, but really talk sounds better than reality For the record, I was asleep for an hour and a half yesterday afternoon!
@Happygal: He used to do yoga, so he would probably be up for the concept, but the timing of this particular class isn't very good, so I don't think we'll do it.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@Happygal: It'll be three years in the fall! I didn't get into focusing on building a good practice until the past year and a half when my bff started her teacher training.

@mfa_lady: have fun with your in-laws this weekend! Have you vacationed with them before?
Just got back from a barre class. It's really different right now--I have to chug water all throughout and feel like my stamina is low. But I'm out there, you guys!
Hope everyone else has a good weekend!

How far along are you? 22 Weeks
Baby # 1
Were you active before getting pregnant? Yes. I play ice hockey, run, cycle, and lift weights, and I was just getting into triathlons.
Do you have specific goals? I don't want to lose all of the fitness I've worked so hard to build, I want to have as easy a delivery and recovery as possible, and I want to keep being able to do things I enjoy.
What type of exercise do you enjoy? Now? Swimming. All the swimming. I'm still lifting weights 2x a week, and I recently got a barre prenatal dvd that is pretty tough, and I ride my bike 2 miles RT to work. I'm still running 1-2 days a week. I recently started going to prenatal yoga.
Anything else? I'm working really hard on getting enough protein in, and I feel like I've been super-tired lately. I have a sprint distance triathlon in August that I'm using to keep me training (I have to have a training goal or I can't make myself workout.)
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Happygal: Damn, girl. Good for you for going to barre! I'm so impressed. We have vacationed with them before, but this is a little more intense because it's far away, it's for an occasion (MIL's bday), it's also her entire extended family, and we're making our announcement. Eek! I know it will be fun but I'm a little stressed about it at the moment.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@mfa_lady: well, I really don't feel that impressive, but thanks! Sounds like you have a really big vacation lined up. Where are you going again?
@Ms.Mermaid: good to see you here! Ice hockey is so impressive to me--I can hardly stand up in skates! I have a hard time getting enough protein in, and that's when I'll feel bad. Do you have favorite meals and snacks?
A little late on the check in today. How is everyone doing? Fun plans for the 4th?
I'm lining up another training session for the pilates reformers and that may be about it for me this week. We're going to see family and plan on sharing the news!
persimmon / 1313 posts
@Happygal: Hope your pilates session goes well!
I'm exhausted after a road trip this weekend but I managed to get a mile walk in today just to feel like I've done something. I hope to feel energized again soon!

Got in a 1.26 mile walk today at 18 min/mile which isn't too bad considering the heat Hope you mamas are doing well!

Tonight I rode my bike to the gym, got in a 15 minute swim, and then rode home. It was getting dark and I didn't have my light and I wanted to get home for dinner, but I got to test out my new suit, which is huge but I'm sure I'll grow into it in the next 18 weeks.
persimmon / 1177 posts
@Ms.Mermaid: I'm having a terrible time eating enough protein as well. The only meat I'm interested in lately is hot dogs not exactly the healthiest choice.
Had a good workout yesterday afternoon, but the gym was closed today (power is out just about everywhere- we had bad thunderstorms here last night) so I napped instead

I'd love to join this thread! I seriously need some exercise accountability...

Baby # 2
Were you active before getting pregnant? Nope, not really at all. I have a toddler, and we live in a walkable neighborhood, so we walk to restaurants and stuff occasionally. But other than that, I am pretty inactive. Unfortunately.
What type of exercise do you enjoy? I hate exercising! I like some kinds/classes of yoga, so I'm looking to get into a prenatal yoga class. But I wanted to wait until after the first tri. And now I can't remember to go to class.
Anything else? I guess I'm a little concerned about exercising because I'm already at a low weight (from bfing my first + lots of aversions in the first tri.). I'm also not great at drinking enough water. I just want to make sure I strike the right balance re: being safe and getting adequate exercise.
I sound like a big slob! Ha. I'd love some advice on how to ease into things.
pomelo / 5228 posts
I drove all the way to pre-natal yoga this afternoon just to find out it was cancelled Apparently they were having a summer picnic instead and since I've only been once before I had no idea. And I already have somewhere else to be during the class tomorrow morning.
Instead I came home and trimmed our grape, kiwi, and blackberry vines (which needed it desperately).

@Allison - I don't know if this is helpful but exercise revs up my metabolism so I'm really hungry all of the time - I have not found it to be helpful with combating weight gain. I found a prenatal yoga youtube channel that has like, 10 minute yoga segments - I would recommend scheduling in 10 minutes in your morning or at a set time every day, and doing a segment, and then you have done some exercise for the day, but it's not so much that it would burn a ton of calories (just makes the round ligament pain and hip/back achiness a lot better in my experience), and once you've been able to get into that habit for a week or so, you could try adding a second segment or you could try alternating your yoga with a 20-minute walk 3 times a week. That's just my suggestion, although I think the best idea is always to just find something you do enjoy doing. Do you have StrollerFit classes near you? I did a free one and it was pretty fun and you can bring your baby to it, and they totally accommodate pregnant women.
As for water, can you get a big 32-ounce bottle and just make sure you are drinking it and refilling it a couple times a day?

Ok, I had my first ultrasound today and I feel confident enough to finally join this thread!
How far along are you? 5 weeks
Baby # 2
Were you active before getting pregnant? Yes. I have added daily exercise to my life and have lost 30 lbs in the last 6 months.
Do you have specific goals? I want to maintain my strength and prevent the back pain that I experienced with my first pregnancy. I would also like to gain only weight that is necessary for the baby to grow.
What type of exercise do you enjoy? I like kickboxing, yoga, walking, occasionally running, hiking, and I use Jillian Michaels videos for strength training. I haven't done anything except walking since finding out about the pregnancy because raising my heart rate at all makes me very dizzy and I am a bit scared.
Anything else? I was on bed rest for much of my second trimester last time due to a sch, so I am a little bit afraid of pushing myself too far this time and having another. Trying to figure out the right balance of exercise and rest.
pomelo / 5000 posts
Yeah! I'm glad to see some activity here. Please throw out/get going any ideas you have for keeping this thread moving along.
@allison: welcome! I'm glad to see another not-so-active member like me! I don't really love exercising, but I am always happy afterwards. I don't know if I'll ever get to the point where I feel excited to go to the gym.
In terms of advice for easing into things, it would be helpful to know what you're hoping to achieve. Do you have a general goal in mind?
@charmed: protein picks for me include LOTS of greek yogurt, cheese, and nuts. Those are for snacks. I need to expand my menu!
@Mrs. Lion: welcome! Jillian Michaels is no joke! My husband looked at the cover of one of her DVDs and asked me why she looked so smug. He's right! I hope you can avoid bed rest this go round.
pomelo / 5000 posts
Pilates reformer went well the other day. It's a really great workout, but I don't know if I'll get to use it that often b/c the classes fill up quickly.
I'm excited to soon enter the second trimester and join the prenatal yoga class at my gym.
My biggest challenge right now is changing the way I eat. Before pregnancy, I usually skipped breakfast, ate a "this-and-that" type of lunch, had a mid-afternoon snack, and then dinner. Always at different times. That hasn't really worked out well for me as a pregnant person, so at least once a day, I feel bad and know it's just b/c I haven't eaten enough. It's hard to change eating habits though! I also could be drinking more water for sure.
@Mrs.Someone: that is really frustrating! I hope it wasn't too far of a drive. Gardening can be a good workout!
pear / 1895 posts
@Happygal: Thanks for the welcome :). I guess my main goal is just to strengthen my body to help prepare it for labor. I know I shouldn't set any goals that are too lofty, at this point. I think yoga will definitely help. If I can just remember to go
persimmon / 1313 posts
@allison: Hi welcome! Definitely try out some of the prenatal yoga videos on Youtube if you have the time. They're short and you can take breaks when you're feeling a tired or dizzy. I think that definitely helps prepare you for class.
I've also had a lot of aversions and just found out I lost four pounds in the first trimester. Ugh Staying safe while exercising is important! Hopefully getting your metabolism moving will help you gain an appetite.
@Mrs. Lion: Welcome and congratulations on the 30lb loss! That's awesome! Here's to hoping for a healthy pregnancy I also didn't do much after finding out because I was super nervous and very sick. It's ok to take it slow I think! Jillian Michaels is so good/bad
@Happygal: I'm glad pilates went well! I keep trying to get into the prenatal yoga at my gym/hospital (long story) but I was out of town last week and classes are cancelled this Friday. Hopefully next week! I love practicing at home but I miss the group.
I'm taking it easy today and might do some back stretches since I've been feeling up and down. Happy workouts!

How far along are you? 6 weeks
Baby # 2! (#1 is 14 months)
Were you active before getting pregnant? I have been active in the past, but unfortunately I was doing a lot of being lazy and stress eating in the weeks leading up to being pregnant. I gained back a lot of the weight I had recently lost from pregnancy #1 so now I'm feeling pretty gross and down on myself
Do you have specific goals? No, but I'd love to figure some out!
What type of exercise do you enjoy? Walking, running, yoga, group classes when I had the time to take them (pre-kids), weights, fun videos at home.
Anything else? I am a stress/emotional eater! I also really want to turn things around and get back in better shape ASAP. I worked out and ate well for my first pregnancy and it really paid off! This morning I asked DH if I looked pregnant and he said "you look like someone who doesn't work out" Ouch - the truth hurts!!
