My kids didn't take to the swing at all but both were happy with the bouncer! (Vibrating fisher price version)

Fisher Price Cradle & Swing is awesome! I could take or leave our bouncer. LO was not a fan but it was nice to have a place to set her down. We use the Bumbo a lot more now.

Swing! My LO did not care for the bouncer at all, and the devices that tried to combine the two were a major fail. The snugabunny was a lifesaver for us and many others on these boards! Comes in many different styles...I know there's a monkey one, and I think maybe a puppy and a ladybug? I don't know, they're always changing it - whichever of the Fisher Price ones you like. It was one of the more expensive ones I looked at, and took up more space, but it was so incredibly worth it. The mobile, the mirror in that area for LO to gaze at, it rocks in 3 different directions, the speed and sounds are so adjustable...it's just awesome.

Swing. Last time we had a FP. This time we went with a mamaroo.

We had a portable swing and was happy with it even though it was short lived.

LO wouls scream after a few minutes in her bouncer, but she loves her swing! We have the Snuggabunny.

Ours is a swing AND a rocker (but you could get it as a bouncer instead...we already had a bouncer so we opted for something different). Best purchase ever! LO napped in that thing well up to 7 months when he outgrew it/started trying to crawl out of it.

Snugabunny swing...it's rated the #1 swing on Amazon for a reason!

Swing x 1,000,000,000!
I echo the recommendation for the Snugabunny

Loved our soothing vibration graco swing. It didn't take up as much space as some, too. It's not close to the ground like our bouncer was. Very easy to put her in it when I needed to set her down. However, now that she's 5 months we rarely use it and use the bounce a bit more. I liked having both, but if I had to pick one it would be swing.

If I could only have one, I would want a bouncer. I loved carrying it around from room to room. The swing took up too much space and DS never seemed that into it.

We have the same swing as @kjpugs: and we love it! I wanted a snugabunny, but we didn't want one so big. We bought one of those for my mom's house since she has way more room and the Graco one for ours. LO seems to like them both equally!

We have a really basic bouncer (no vibrating etc, just a manual rocking function) and it was awesome. Swings aren't really a big thing in New Zealand but bouncers are popular! LO used to hang out in her bouncer on our kitchen table while I are breakfast a prepared dinner and she also took a few naps in it.

Snugabunny was a lifesaver for us!
But we probably only used it for 3 months. If it wasn't a hand-me-down, I'm not sure the amount of use we got out of it would be worth the price...
Nevermind! Xander started sleeping longer stretches in that swing which meant I got to sleep longer stretches! TOTALLY worth it when you're sleep-deprived!!!

If you want a swing, but don't get one as a registry gift, check out stores like Once Upon a Child, or mom resale groups. I see them a lot.

Just wanted to pipe in and say that the Snugabunny is a FP Cradle & Swing We have an older hand-me-down that is aquarium themed. Snugabunny is just the style but I definitely think the Cradle & Swing is the way to go!

We only had a bouncer, and DD could not have cared less about it. I ended up swinging her back and forth in her infant carseat because we didn't have the space for a swing, and by the time I was desperate, it didn't feel like I'd get my money's worth. I vote swing!

Never used our bouncer, but our snuggabunny swing was a lifesaver for us!

I have the FP Luv U Zoo cradle swing. Very similar to the Sungabunny (3 way swing, recline, plug-in, mirror mobile ect) but it was on sale for a lot less. I think it was/is used way more than the bouncers we have.

I've been agonizing over this exact question! I don't know what to do. I'm leaning on getting the swing, though, because we were also gifted a RnP (I hadn't registered for one). I think we're getting this one, because it's got a small footprint:

We haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I really do want it!

Fisher price infant to toddler rocker, although I also love the snugabunny swing. We still use both at seven months.

The swing was one of the emergency purchases we ran out to get! Helped a ton when baby refused to nap!
We had fisher price snugamonkey at home, and in-laws have the bunny version at their house!

Another snugabunny fan here. J napped in it 3 times a day for many months and just loved it. He'd be asleep almost right away after it started. I tried him in a bouncer a few times and he didn't like it.

I"m torn as the swing got him to nap some amazing naps in the beginning but I weaned him off of it around 2.5 - 3 months to make sure he wasn't dependent on it when he went to daycare. However, the bouncer was used all the time just to have a safe place to put him if I need to set him down. I would strap him in with a toy in the morning so I could take a shower and get ready if he woke up early.

R hated the swing, and would tolerate the bouncer for sort periods. But it was nice to put on top of the table while we eat. She liked that she could see us.

LO #1 napped great in her swing. LO #2 won't nap in either, but prefers to hang out in the bouncer usually. Just depends on the baby.

No room for a swing, so we had a baby bjorn bouncer which I loved!

The snuggabunny swing was a lifesaver, He would sleep in the swing when nothing else would work. I barely ever used our bouncer.

Can I ask a silly question? Why is the floor not a safe place to lay a baby when needing to do something? I always hear this as a reason to have a bouncer but we always just put lo on a blanket on the floor...am I missing something? Is there a reason not to do that?
pomegranate / 3983 posts
@Mrs. Lion: With my first LO we also just put him on the floor. I considered it safe until he became mobile. With Baby Brother I couldn't do that because a) he would get fussy without the incline and b) I didn't trust his older brother to not mess with him.

I'm coming on to say bouncer! I used that thing EVERYWHERE! It was the most amazing for taking her outside when I needed to do yardwork/gardening after work every day. However, we don't have shade anywhere in our yard, and our entire yard is sloped/rocky, so there's no other place to set her down, like a blanket on a flat patch of grass.
We have a big kitchen island so I would put her up there while I was chopping and preparing dinner (while always right next to her - no worries!!). I could bounce her and talk/sing to her to keep her entertained.
It was portable enough that I could take it to MILs so we could put her on the deck with us and I could rock her with my foot - she loved being inclined and talking to everyone, and the deck was too hard/splintery to set a baby down on, even with a blanket
I could go on and on
The swing was also awesome, but it was only useful in the living room, no way am I carrying that beast around!
@Mrs. Lion: For this reason
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@swurlygurl: ooh I can definitely see the outside benefit That never occurred to me! We had him in the stroller a lot instead.
@Baby Boy Mom: Do you feel like he is safer from brother in the bouncer? Do you put it up high? The second baby thing hadn't occurred to me either
