that would be so hard. But p is ours regardless if he's not biologically. There would be.no way I would be able to switch him back! Nope not happening. It tears me up just thinking about it.

I woul keep the child I had and try to get the other parents to give me their child as well. I'm sure they wouldn't. I would atleast try to have a relationship with the other child.

I would kind of want both children? I would NEVER give my child up, but it would hurt to know that mine and my husband's biological child was not with us.
I'd keep the one I raised after I confirmed my biological child was happy and also being taken care of and I move on?
I don't know. The hospital would have HELL to pay.

Can this even happen anymore with babies staying in the room, RFID tags, and barcoding of hospital bracelets? Sorry, my records manager self peeks through. Also, Veronica Mars did an episode of this too with Mac switched at birth with Madison.

I would definitely want to keep the one i had been raising, but try to have a relationship with my biological kid.

I wouldnt worry about it now, but back when I was born, my mom was terrified I would get switched with another baby in the hospital, although it was mostly because they wanted to name me a very very popular girls name at the time. My parents ended up changing my name to prevent me being switched with another baby accidentally.

@cascademom: Yep, it CAN still happen. It's called lazy staff. I heard a story just the other day where the mom and baby weren't banded the whole hospitalization. Luckily, nothing happened but it is the responsibility of ALL staff to make sure this is done.
I've also heard stories of babies being brought into the room without bands being checked... and then nursing with the wrong mother. Oy!

@runsyellowlites: It's one of my favorite shows, too! I think it's a good solution, too!

@Running Elley: This was such a huge irrational fear of mine!!! One of the big reasons why we roomed in and the few times they took her to the nursery for tests I was so worried. Each time they brought her back I would stare at her for a really long time to be sure she was ours. haha

@Ash: Yes! DH actually wasn't immediately banded bc they all thought that the other nurse did. We were so flustered we didn't even notice till the head nurse did! But baby and I were immediately banded and her band has a tracking device on it as well.

@Ash: Wow, I had no idea that it has the possibility to happen. I would have thought with the technology that incidents would be a lot less. Hearing that it still happens makes me really want to room with #2 when it happens eventually, despite how tiring it can be.

I have to say, one of the things that made me happiest about our hospital is they have little baby "lo-jack" for the babies. lol they slap this little plastic security device on their leg as soon as they are born that matches only to the mother's wrist bracelet, and if anyone tries to tamper with the leg device, alarms go off and the maternity ward doors locked!!

@Running Elley: just like in the desperate housewives show it is a dilemma you almost want to keep both babies, your biological child and the one you brought up as yours. Thankfully these days that hardly happens in real life

@yoursilverlining: Our hospital did that too, but A's kept falling off! They had replace it twice! And yes, the alarm went off and nurses came running in..

@JoJoGirl: scary! I was so nervous that would happen to us too - I wanted to fidget with it to make sure it wouldn't fall off and then the nurse told me to stop doing that or I would set off the alarm lol

@runsyellowlites: I think its such a good idea. No one wants to think about someone trying to steal a baby, or having an accidental switching....but better safe than sorry!

I can't imagine not recognizing or mistaking my baby for someone else's in the same hospital. When K was born, I don't think I ever even saw another baby our whole time there! All babies were kept in the mother's room. Even when they took her for shots, they only take 1 baby at a time. We were band matched it seemed like every couple of hours. And the ward had security and locked doors.

But back to the question, she's mine. No way could I give her to anyone else. But I would want to keep an open relationship with the other family and our bio baby. Maybe like Switched at Birth, one big family.

this almost happened to 2 of my childhood friends!

they were born one day apart at the same hospital, and their last names are both short, with only one letter difference. they are also both asian babies, at a time when it was a little more rare in the city we grew up in. however, one friend is male and the other female... the nurses brought the babies to the wrong mother, and my friend's mom was like.... uh... i didn't have a boy.....! (thankfully both families were already friends at the time, so i imagine they couldn't really have ended up being switched...) but still! those nurses must have felt so bad... 0_o!!

That would be so hard because I'm so madly in love with A, but what if the other baby was just like her and I was missing out? Ugh that would be so tough!
