We just got back from our first meeting at a new MOPS group and the teachers said she had a rough morning. 
She's been doing awesome at our normal church (the only other childcare she goes to) since moving to the older room. I was just a little surprised going to get her because she started crying as soon as she saw me. The teachers said she was really sweet, but that she was sympathy crying because other kids were crying. Ugh, it just took me off guard and broke my heart. Is there anything that can be done to help sympathy crying? I'm just worried she will regress and start crying at drop off like she used to. She loves going to class at our normal church and I'm worried this will cause regression with that too. She's 19 months.

Was she with younger kids in this class than the former class?

Did the teachers think it was unusual? My son bursts into tears when I pick him up from daycare, but his teachers have indicated that a lot of the kids his age do it (17 months) so I never worried but it sometimes makes me a little sad. If I greet him super excitedly I can sometimes head him off.

@mrsrain: This mops class was kids close in age I believe. I saw at least one kid crying when I went to pick her up today. Her old class was younger and she would cry at drop off and pick up, but it stopped immediately when she moved up.
@gilmoregirl: This was her first day, so the teachers don't really know her well yet. But it was new to me to hear that she was sympathy crying. I'll have to ask her teachers at her normal church classroom if she has done that. I just thought she was over it since she hasn't done it in a couple months!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I think this happened with LO today. He's 3, but moved up into the pre-school class. He was great all week long until today. When I dropped him off, another little girl was being dropped off, and she cries at drop off every day. We usually are earlier, but since I worked from home today, we were there when she was being dropped off, and he started crying too when I was leaving. Broke my heart since he hasn't cried in over a year when I've dropped him off.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: maybe it's part of the adjustment to a new location for her? My son doesn't cry when others do, at least not that I've seen or been told, but when he cries at pickup, it's not uncommon that another toddler or two starts crying. But it's usually only for a minute or two, so your daughter might be experiencing something different.
