Saw a house yesterday and fell in love. It's in our price range!! But a longer commute for us (esp. my husband) and no yard whatsoever, so my husband is not sure and I know these concerns are legit.
But... but... it's in the woods, dudes. And it looks like a cool old warehouse. 
Inevitably when house hunting I fall in love too easily, and then I am devastated when it doesn't work out for some reason. I need someone to talk some sense into me. I need to be rational.
HELP.

Do you have kids?
If so the no yard thing would push me away. We looked at several houses in the neighbor we bought in and loved the homes but the yards were not kid friendly at all!!
And that is right on the road - yikes!!

Would your kids be able to attend the local school, or do they have to commute as well?
What is the back of the house facing, a wooded area?

That light pole w/ all those lines going in the front of the house is A) not appealing and B) potentially dangerous!

@Mamaof2: Yeah, I know. it is RIGHT on the road and backed right up into the hill or mountain or whatever it is. (The only good thing is that the bottom level is garage so in case of some accident no vehicles would end up in the living spaces.) There is absolutely no yard, but it would be possible to build a deck on top....

@looch: I work at their future school so we would go together in a car or on the bus. Not tooo far, maybe 35 min? My husband's really the one who would be most affected.

@mamimami: Yeah... that's totally gorgeous. Im not gonna lie that the yard thing wouldn't bother me too much. We want to move into the city where we're from and we wouldn't have much of a yard there either.

I think it's a gorgous house. If you can deal with the proximity to the street and not having a yard, I'd say go for it.
I personally detest yard work..but I do like to have at least some outdoor living space, if you can do a deck on the roof, that would be super cool.

Besides that I would need a yard, and the front door looks like it's literally 5 ft from the street. The pics are awesome, if only you could pick it up and plop it somewhere else.

Exterior of the house I was eh about, but the interior, wow!! It's huge and definitely something you could work with!
Our new house backs power lines also, but it's also lining a greenbelt. Green belt plus power lines lining the back of houses is pretty normal around here. I thought it'd be a deal breaker for us, but it isn't.
For me, the biggest deal breaker would be location since traffic is a nightmare here. I like living in the burbs so I know there will be some commute, but if my commute is more than 30 minutes without traffic, I know I'm going to hate it because with traffic, I'm looking at 1.5+ hours. No thank you!!

It's super cool, and I can totally see why you'd be tempted. But the lack of yard, the front porch 2 steps from the street, and the lack of parking for guests would all add up to be a "no" for me.

I am not going to be any help, because I would totally buy that house. If you can build a deck..... swoon. Light pole? Get black out shades for night time. I don't see how living in a house like this would be much different than living in a big city brownstone (with it's street proximity).

Very interesting house, but the main downside is that it faces right up to the road. Safety of the kids would be a huge factor for me...

Honestly, when I saw that first picture of the exterior I wasn't impressed, but the interior and woodsy views are so cool!
No yard, steps away from the street, power lines, and a longer commute would be a dealbreaker for me. Trying to back out of that house from the "driveway" seems like a nightmare if you're on a main road... and potentially dangerous for kids!
Also, even if the commute affects mostly your husband it still affects you and LO too because that means he'll be on the road more and less time helping you out at home. Not to mention he'll probably be spending less time with your LO!

We were in a similar situation at one point! I did a quick calculation of how many hours (actually how many full days!) we would be commuting over a typical year at "faraway house" vs "city house." That fixed it for me! I have a walking commute now.

@catlady: Ugh that is a scary number. This place is about 15 minutes further away from work than where we live now, but that does add up. Not to mention all those "unexpected" traffic jams....

K, first off, I love the interior! But I would totally get turned off by 1. Location. It's way too close to a main road. My rule of thumb is no house near a road with yellow lines lol. Means too many cars or the road is too big. 2. Yard, I would definitely need a yard. To relax, chill,etc with the kids. 3. Really far from school. That's supposed to be 30 min+ from the kids future school? Way too long of a commute. I did it for a specialized high school and it was alright but, wouldn't do it to my kids...unless they got into a specialized school lol.
But love love love the interior!
