To distract DH from convincing me to plant 5 new fruit trees, I'm coming up with a much smaller alternative -- berries! If you can grow your own berries, what variety would you pick?

We just planted strawberry plants last year and are looking forward to our first harvest this year. We also want to get raspberry or blueberry bushes

If I could pick, I'd probably pick strawberries and blueberries! DH also likes blackberries so he'd probably want some of those too.

Blueberries grow really well around here but they are really prickly bushes.
We love wild blackberries because they are SOO much sweeter than the ones you get in the stores.

We grow blueberries and blackberries. I've never tried strawberries because I feel like I would need way more plants than I really feel like caring for. I can get a good harvest from 2 blueberry trees and just one or two large blackberry bushes.

Blackberries. We used to have wild blackberries growing in our backyard in Maryland I loved eating those sweet things right off the bushes in the summer!!

Thanks to you all, I've just read about blackberries and great news - I can grow them here! I'm gonna pitch both black berries and blueberries to DH, hopefully that'll take his mind off of so many fruit trees

Rainier cherries! They don't grow here, but OMG THEY ARE AMAZING.
I have a dwarf sour cherry tree and a blueberry bush in my yard, though. I hope I get fruit this year, but may not until next year

Growing up we had blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Blackberries are my favorite but they're also a weed and grow over everything so be careful with that one. Once we have land again (we rent) I'm looking forward to planting a huge garden with many berries.

Berries are sooo much easier than trees! We have thornless blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries. The blackberries do awesome and we get tons of fruit, the raspberries do pretty well and so do the strawberries (but they involve a lot of weeding), but the deer keep eating our blueberry plants.

We had a raspberry bush growing up and it made mowing the lawn bearable. Every time I passed it I'd grab a handfull of delicious berries! We had to be quick though, the birds would steal them as fast as they would grow.

You all got me so excited about growing berries! I've even watched a few planting videos on YouTube! I'm not sure what type DD would like yet, but I'm especially looking forward to her picking them.
Now I just have to wait for all this snow to melt and for our fave gardening center to open their outdoor area. Maybe I'll just order online? Hmmm ...

If we had the room I would grow raspberries, strawberries and blackberries! They grow really well in MN

@bree72: We're in Sweden. It's equivalent to plant hardiness zone 6a at it's coldest (no windchill), but it's usually around 7b.
