DS is 9 weeks old and has cradle cap. He also has a full head of thick curly afro. His pedi suggested using baby oil on it and brushing it. She also said I could just leave it alone and it would resolve itself. I see online that everyone says leave it alone and it goes away. My issue is that as even when it lifts off his scalp in flakes it gets trapped in the tight coils of his hair.
So far I have used coconut oil and then later tried the baby oil, and i use a brush or my fingers to try to detangle his curls to get the flakes out. Any advice would be appreciated

When you're washing his hair, make sure you're rinsing with clean water from the spout and not the bath water. The bath water is soapy and could stay on his scalp and continue to dry it out.

We did the exact same thing as @raspberries and the cradle cap was gone within like 2 days. It was crazy how easy it was. We continued to use the mustela once a week or so until we ran out (which took like a year) and it never came back.

I've had the most success with Tubby Todd's All Over Ointment. Worked within a few days and so far at 6 months hasn't come back.

Combination of advice from our pediatrician and doula: limit baths, as they dry out the skin/scalp and can make it worse, & try olive oil on the scalp. It's apparently more moisturizing and better for their skin than baby oil. I got a dark (we use extra light for cooking) and organic bottle. Gone within a few days of using the oil daily.

With DS1, I rubbed a bunch of olive oil all over and then used a fine-tooth comb to lift and pull out the flakes. He didn't have much hair, though. With DS2 (who had more hair), I just let it resolve itself but it took a few months. It was mostly covered by the hair so it was less obvious.

My doctor recommended T-Gel by Neutrogena shampoo and it worked well. By the time I turned to that recommendation LO's cradle cap was rough. After about a week of using 2-3 times I saw a vast improvement. Unfortunately, as the cradle flakes flaked off it took some of his hair with it.

If the cradle cap is really bad don't bother with the oil. My middle girl had tons of hair and the worst cradle cap. It would lift off in sheets the size of nickels and get stuck in her hair. So gross.
I did olive oil with my first who had a bit of cc and tried that for a month with my younger one to no avail. Also rinsing oil out of hair is not easy.
I picked up the Mustela lotion and foaming shampoo and it was literally gone overnight.
Save yourself the aggrevation get the Mustela stuff. And a soft plastic comb, baby brushes are rubbish on thick hair. -
The mustella foam definitely helps keep it at bay.

Also used the mustela foaming shampoo. For both my girls (both have fine not too curly hair) what worked best was putting coconut oil on and rubbing in with my fingers. Scrub a little with the soft baby brush to loosen up the flakes, wash with musetla, again scrubbing with the brush. Then afterwards I would lay her down and comb out the flakes with the fine tooth comb they gave us in the hospital. Doing that for a week or so (every few nights) took care of it for us. But I can imagine the tightly curled hair makes the combing out part a lot harder.
