1. What subject do you teach?

I taught a course at a local university once, so I'll answer in the past tense!
1. What subject did you teach?
I taught a course on media/Internet at a local university.
2. How old were your students?
20+ years old.
3. How did you like it?
I really enjoyed pulling together the curriculum and reading lists! That's what I had always pictured as being a big part of the teaching experience, and I loved it. But I was surprised by what an emotional job it was (for me). I loved about 1/3 of my students, couldn't stand 2-3 of them, and felt apathetic towards the rest. Those few students really had a huge impact on my teaching experience!
I was also surprised by how draining it was to teach. I did it once a week in the afternoon (it was a 3-hour class). I think I'll try teaching again after I retire and can just focus on it... it was tough to balance teaching and my regular job at the same time! Overall it was a good experience and I'm really glad I did it.

1. I am an intervention specialist. I work with students that are struggling in reading in elementary school
2. I do kindergarten through fifth grade
3. Love working with elementary students. I have done middle school as well. This is my 14th year teaching and I've been at four different schools, having started in a regular classroom, then I was in administration , and now I'm doing this. This is my favorite.

1. I teach Spanish and ESL.
2. I teach in a middle school which has grades 5-8. I teach 3 grade levels, but the grade level assignments change each year. This past year my students were ages 9-13.
3. I love teaching. It's a hard and emotional job, but I love my students and have fun trying to find creative ways to teach content. I laugh so much every day. Another perk is that my school is like a family... Most people get a job there and stay until retirement.

I teach high school English. Adding on yearbook next year.
Taught freshmen (14-15 years old) and will have 10th graders and mixed classes next year.
I love it, but it's hard to remember that this week (if I hear "miss, what can I do to pass this class" again, I may lose it. Um, get a time machine? )

1. What subject do you teach? I taught kindergarten for three years, taught fourth grade literacy for one year, and now work with E.L.L. students two mornings a week. I also have my own tutoring business, and work with students 4-5 afternoons a week.
2. How old are your students? Previously, they were 5 and 6 (kindergarten) and 9 and 10 (4th grade). The E.L.L. students I work with are 11. As a tutor, I have a wide range of ages. Currently my youngest is a kindergartner, and my oldest is a junior in high school!
3. How do you like it? I love my balance now. Being a full-time classroom teacher wasn't a great fit for me. Now, as a mom, I am so fortunate with the balance I have. I still am tied to a school, so get to keep up-to-date on curriculum and trends in education, but I get to (mostly!) avoid a lot of the politics that come with being on a teaching team. I LOVE working one-on-one with students as a tutor. It is truly a perfect fit for me, and I hope to be able to do this work for many years to come.
@travellingbee: If you don't mind me asking, what kind of certification did you need to get above and beyond a regular teaching degree to become an interventionist? I feel like working towards that type of extra degree/credential is probably worth my while, as it really goes along with much of what I do as a tutor.

1. I taught primarily first grade. But I'd love to be a reading specialist and teach small groups/individual students if I got back into it.
2 Five to Seven years old, depending on when their birthday falls during the year, and when in the year it is!
3. It's a love-hate relationship. I left my last job due to depression brought on by stress. But it was the admin, not the kids who caused it, mostly.

@ChiCalGoBee: I don't have any specific certification for this position. I am certified first through eighth grade as a self-contained teacher, and fourth through eighth grade as a language arts teacher. I have a masters in elementary education. But none of it is specifically for being an intervention specialist. I do know that in some states they have a certification specifically for reading specialists though.
