Not ok.
I had a babysitter who would do the same thing and it made me so mad. We just stopped using her.

Even at open music classes and stuff I have to sign something that it's ok to post pictures of my LO (untagged). That's not ok in my book.

Definitely not okay! I taught pre-k for 5 years and never posted pictures of students unless I was personally friends with their parents and they were fine with it (which happened maybe twice). I have facebook friends that are teachers who do this and I honestly don't get it! At schools I've been at, it's been very clear that you should never post pictures of students.

That's a big bowl of nope! If it's not against daycare policy already, daycare needs to make it a policy! I teach and posting photos or names of children on social media is a big no-no. Unfortunately, the idea that it is inappropriate doesn't even cross some people's minds.

I would be very upset. I signed a form saying they could take his picture to use within official daycare stuff, which thus far hasn't included Facebook but if it did, he wouldn't be named.

People at our center are not allowed to take photos of the kids unless used for art projects or to send to parents. This is a huge no no.

A former daycare teacher of LO's posts pictures of kids if she is FB friends with the parents and tags them. I always liked it.

Not okay! I would be super pissed!

I would be upset because I don't like people knowing where my kids go to daycare. I would probably just ask the teacher directly to remove them and not do it anymore. Then, I'd separately discuss the need for a policy with the director without bringing up the exact incident if possible.

@808love: why is preschool different than grade school?

On a personal page that isn't private? Absolutely not ok.

@T.H.O.U.: That's the purpose of getting photo releases signed to know if it's ok to post. Hassle or not, these places should follow the guidelines.

@kiddosc: I would be upset by this! Our center has us sign a release for whether kids can be photographed, but even then it's specified it's only for their brochures, website, and the center's Facebook page as advertising.

@kiddosc: Yes - I agree that it is different, especially because she is not his teacher and you don't have that relationship and trust there. We built a great relationship with this teacher that posted pictures of LO on FB and she was more like a good family friend. If it were a random person that worked there, and if I had no way of knowing about it because I wasn't tagged, it would definitely bother me more. And especially because you are not Facebook friends but could still find it, so she's not being very careful about privacy settings.

I still think it was likely done without any bad intentions, and ultimately it is probably the school's responsibility to have guidelines on this stuff. So I would talk to the director.

@kiddosc: Good thing you spoke up!! Way to resolve this issue. People just don't know these things.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: In our single school district state, we have strict guidelines starting at the elementary level. Our preschools are privately run so anything goes. I find many of them are just green to the whole tech scene as it is not a highly technical environment and privacy policies have not been set in place to keep up with our ever changing and growing media explosion. That along with well intentioned yet newbie teachers just love to see pics of the kids smiling and super proud of their jobs. Plus a lot of advertising goes on because it is a highly competitive business.

More food for thought: there are some school districts in other states that are completely twitterfied. These areas get parent release signatures and the kids are subject to all kinds of social media photos to gain attention for their precious everyday educational moments and outstanding achievements.
