@happygal: So excited to see another ESOL teacher bee! I teach ESOL at a PK-8 school in Baltimore City and love it. The politics, paperwork and other nonsense is a pain, but I love what I do and my kids are fantastic. The languages represented at my school are Arabic, Amharic, French, Igbo, and Spanish. What city/state are you in? What kind of ESOL instructional model does your school follow?

I teach at the graduate level. So a little different but still a teacher!

@Happygal: it is less discipline more instructional. Elementary is much easier compared to middle school! I coach teachers, do observations, build assessments, do a lot of projects. Not much discipline, I organize a lot of student interventions and talk to parents.

I teach 3-6 ESL part-time. I'd previously taught middle school and personally feel like it was much easier.

Middle school special education here! Love teaching but definetly am having to adjust now that I'm a mom too I used to stay late and also do planning at home ... Now I can't get home to my lo quick enough!

@Katrocap: You're not too far from me! In fact, a student I tutored just took a class field trip to your city. I'm in Virginia in a tiny school where the languages are Korean, Spanish, and Arabic. The county supports SIOP model, but whether that happens or not is another story. How about you?
If I teach full-time next year, I may be at a school that is 90% Latino or a school where there are over 30 countries and 20 different languages represented!
@raintreebee: what do you teach? In my experience, graduate students can often act like juveniles!
@rrachael: how are you finding the mom/teacher balance?
@SugarplumsMom: another ESL teacher! What made middle school easier for you?

When is everyone's last day? Ours is June 12--we have to make up time for so many snow days.

@Happygal: I did a lot of presentations, build assessments, held instructional meetings for other teachers. I much preferred that over disciplining the younger kiddies.

@Happygal: I didn't know that you were in Virginia. Are you in Nova?
Our last day is June 17, which is pretty typical for here. We don't start until the day after Labor Day though.

@mrs. 64: I'll wall you my city. It's a good one to visit! My sister is in Arlington and the schools both start a little later and get out later than schools here, although it's more like how I remember things being growing up.

@mrs. 64: my last day is June 27 and we also started after Labor Day. Lucky!

@swedishfish: whoah, June 27 seems so far away! Is that the last day for students, or for you?

@Happygal: both! Half day for students and then we all rush out too.

Last day for students is June 4. We missed quite a bit for snow but they just took away all our breaks instead of making the school year extra long.

@HazelEyes: do you do more counseling on academics or emotional kind of stuff? Good to see another Virginia woman around here!
@Mrs. Taco: what a perfect way to wrap up the school year!

I am on mat leave but I teach high school Science in Sydney Australia - so high school is grades 7-12. In Grades 11-12 I teach Biology. I LOVE it and can't wait to get back to teaching! I teach at a very affluent private school so I get some crazy pants parents but it just adds to the fun

I teach 4th grade, all subjects, in a public school. Totally love my job. I have an especially great group of kids this year, too.

@Happygal: it is a lot of both! It's a really tough job (isn't everything in education?) but most days I think I have the best job in the world. Although, now that I'm on at leave I'm not really missing the stress. Or any snow makeup days!
