Our poor little dog thjnks every soft rattly toy is hers. With all the baby stuff coming into our house, there are so many toys that she thinks are chew toys. We tell her no, and she'll stop, but you can tell she's confused an has no idea why we are telling her no. We keep all the dog's toys in one basket and right now the babies' toys are all in a basket in the nursery, unless we just opened a gift, etc.
Has anyone had luck teaching your dog what toys are theirs versus which ones are LO's?

We have the same problem (and oftentimes our dog is more interested in our baby's toys than she is, and vice versa!) so I'm interested in reading the responses!

I'm so worried about this! Our bulldog LOVES his toys and anything that comes in a bag he automatically thinks is A present for him.I think we will try keeping the toys in a separate room and when the baby is old enough to play with them hopefully he will learn the distinction! It's hard because dog toys and baby toys really do look so alike...ha!

We are having to work on this too. Bea thinks every toy is hers and is constantly chewing up the cat's mouse toys. I don't know how it's going to play out down the line with baby toys.

We've been through this too, we use separate baskets and washed the baby toys initially in a Dreft sample so they smelled different from the dog toys washed in plain detergent.
All we have needed is a few corrections telling him that this was C's toy, and giving him one of the dog toys instead. Later when baby became mobile, was correcting C when he grabbed a dog toy. It really hadn't been a problem at all like I thought it would be!

We haven't had a problem. We tell him once "not yours" and then he knows to leave it alone.

I think some of your dogs must be much more well-behaved! I like the idea of different smells. I think that already works to some extent -and my dog will eat anything! I just wish she stopped eating nipples and pacifiers! You think you've hidden everything, but there's always one more!

Our dog just knows somehow - you can see him looking longingly at a baby toy on the floor, but then he gives us a "look at me, I'm so good" look and makes a big show of backing away. He's a big dog and all of his toys are big, so maybe that helps?
