We have a 2 bedroom but our older DS is in the other room so it's basically a 1 bedroom with P (9 months). I also had a 1 bedroom when DS was a bebe.

We haven't worried about trying to "separate" the room or anything like that though. We are happy co-sleeping (having her in our room) and we co-bed a portion of the night.

I would say a crib and small dresser for you lo should be more than sufficient and likely easy to fit with some re-arranging.... Changing tables have never been high on my list (or really on it at all) b/c I change P wherever I am at that moment and prefer a small bin as my diaper caddy.

Since P goes to bed before us it's easy to give her a bedtime routine & put her down on her own and then we just go to bed when we're ready, usually after her first waking so we know she'll be awhile before she wakes again (if she wakes again).

For "fun time" we just use another room.

Ultimately, it's not that inconvenient at all being in the 1 bedroom and TOTALLY doable! =)

We have a 2br but DH is a WAHD and needs his office. We have a 'mini crib' and use a circular play yard for our living room (it's loft-style so there's lots of open balconies). We're looking to buy a home since we sold our house but are in no hurry.

We have a 1 BR with a tiny little nook off the living room that we'll use for a nursery. LO isn't here yet but I love the fact that we can't fit much baby stuff and have been forced to be really selective about which gear we want. It has given me a legit excuse to say NO to people's hand-me-downs that we don't want, and has kept my spending in check (I don't buy every baby thing that catches me eye...in fact, I buy very little!). We bought a crib and were gifted a rocker. Dedicated a small bookshelf to baby stuff and are using a dressing table as a changing table/storage space.

@LindsayInNYC: DS is 13 months and we're still in a 800sf space, no laundry and little storage

My parents and I all shared a one bedroom flat until I was 5 years old! It's totally do-able. Besides, they recommend that the baby sleep in your room for at least 6 months anyway!

@Foodnerd81: A baby will grow out of a mini crib faster. Our regular cribs converts into a full toddler bed and a day bed but mini cribs dont have that option

Like PP, we have her crib and changing table in our room, but she sleeps in a rock'n'play (only 3 weeks old) for now. I'll add a few pics so you can see how we gave LO her own space. We share a closet, all 3 of us, and that gets tight, but otherwise, it's all okay.
Her changing table is right next to where the fabric ends.

@LindsayInNYC: Nope. it's a minicrib, costs about $150, and you can buy a conversion kit to make it a twin.

@LindsayInNYC: yep, we have a mini-crib, too! it's the same size as a pack n play but it's solid wood. regular crib bedding doesn't fit but since you're not supposed to use blankets, bumpers, etc., it wasn't an issue for us. I did get a crib skirt and put a storage bin underneath it. I didn't feel the need for a changing table, so I got the JJCole diaper caddy and just bring that room to room - super easy. I have a storage chest that used to have our stuff in it but use that instead of a dresser for DS. I used my nightstand to keep a wipers warmer (I found this essential because cold wipes made my newborn quiver and cry and I couldn't take it, haha) and the underneath compartment kept my breastpump with I was pumping.
Sometimes I wish DS had more room to play, especially now that he's mobile. But we live across the street from a park with a water park and running track and have a great bike path behind the house.

@MaisyMay: we have the Delta Riley (actually just switched it out for a full size, but we didn't have to by any means). I also used the Rock N Play sleeper ALL THE TIME because it could go under the bed or behind the dresser, it folds up so compact. I used it until he started sitting up and trying to get out of it.

@LindsayInNYC: About that small point, I can tell you that a full size crib DID NOT work for my daughter who loves to move in her sleep, and a pnp would have been a disaster. I think she's a little unique in that way, but you might think about it.

DD is in our room and it has worked for us so far. It does get cramped though and it would be nice if she had her own room. The only downside is that once DD is asleep we have to be super quiet and I can't help but think the reason she doesn't sleep through the night is because of us, DH snores and is always waking her up.

@Foodnerd81: I'm remembering another great one that I'll try to find later. A walk in closet that one.

I would seriously consider the health of your marriage having a baby in the room long term. My girl finally moved out at 8 months and it was very very good for everyone. We really needed a space for just the grown ups.

We own a small place (really wish we were in a rental situation instead) and we have just enough space for our queen size bed, a nightstand on one side of our bed, a chest of drawers on the other side, and the crib is snug in the corner by the foot of our bed. That is all the space we have in our room, and so far it works. We only use the room for sleeping and spend the rest of our time in the living room area, so this works for now. It is tougher when DS wakes up and cries off schedule in the middle of the night though. If things remain the same, we could consider rooming with him for the next two or three years, but I cannot imagine baby #2 fitting into this already-tight picture!

We live in a one bedroom apt in NYC and we have our 6.5 month old DD in our room in a full size crib. A mini crib was a no no for us because I find them to be too small. It works fine, we have enough room. We are moving into a 2 bdr in a couple of months and I do look forward to being able to read a book among other things in bed again.
