I have a moby, a mei tai, and a SSC (Ergo360). I have an almost two-month old 12 poundish baby. She is my first, so baby wearing is a new adventure for me. I've used all three for the sake of trying them out, but I'm curious what carrier(s) you prefer and when/where you use them. Do you prefer one for at home vs. a different one for out and about? Do you have one you like for quick trips vs. wearing for an extended period of time? What is your favorite type/brand of carrier overall and why?

I'm just starting out with LO2, so ill answer for how I did it with LO1.
I used a moby from birth until about 3 months old. Mostly for walks outside- either to go someplace (she didn't like the stroller at first) or just as a walk to get her to fall asleep. Once she started getting bigger I started using our beco Gemini. Sometimes it was just easier than using the stroller (like if we were going someplace crowded, taking public transportation). Then we had the winter from hell when she was a year and a half old and I put her in it in a back carry to walk anywhere because there was too much snow for the stroller.
I don't use it that often when we drive someplace though. And my older lo didn't like being worn inside the house. So far the new baby seems to like it even inside.

We have a ring sling, a moby, a woven wrap, a mei tai, and a tula (ssc). I babywear every day, and finally got my husband to start as well. Our kiddo is 5 months and about 13.5 pounds.
What carriers I use has evolved a lot. For the first 2 months, I used the moby and the mei tai every day. Now I use the tula and ring sling every day, and the mei tai and woven wrap on occasion. The tula I use for walks and hikes. The ring sling is my go to for grocery shopping and cooking dinner and quick ups around the house. The mei tai is my go to if I want her to take a nap while we're at home and she's been fighting sleep. In fact, that's what we're dealing with right now.

I have a Mei Tai. I don't use it at home at all. I used it a lot for shopping (especially grocery shopping) when DD was younger. Now that she can sit up in the cart though, she prefers to ride in the cart versus being worn. At this point, we mainly use it for when she needs to take a nap but we are out and about. But if I strap her to my chest, she'll fall asleep.

I have woven wraps, Tulas, Lenny lamb ssc, and ring slings. I love wrapping my newborn. I wrap him if he is fussy at home and I have stuff to get done, I wrap him when we walk DD to school, I wrap him when we are out instead of keeping him in his car seat. I also wear my 29lb 2 year old. I mostly wear him at the doctors office, but whenever I need him up and out of the way and a stroller isn't an option. I use our toddler Lenny Lamb Ssc for that.
I'll use more SSC when the newborn is bigger. I don't like messing with infant inserts.I babywear a lot. Every day a few times a day.

I used our Moby from 0-3 months. Then switched to our Ergo. I got a ring sling a little late because LO loves being carried on my hip but she's also a little big so it doesn't work for long periods of time. I keep the RS in the car for times I'm carrying her for more than 1-2 min and forgot the ergo, saves my poor arms! Or if I know it's going to be a quick in and out errand. The Ergo I use for everything else. Not every day. Front carry for events, sight seeing, walks/park trips where I'm by myself. Back carry for cooking or chores if she's being clingy, hiking and/or walks with DH (I don't like having her on my back out of the house because she's not very verbal yet so I feel like I can't check in with her very well).

I've been carrying DD in a boba wrap, she seems to like it and falls asleep on my chest. I just feel that I have her a little too high up, and because its summer here we both get hot very quickly. I've ordered a similar wrap by a small aussie brand that I'm waiting on delivery for - its bamboo fabric so should be better.
Today I'm going to try her out in my ergo, though I don't have the infant insert. I might just roll up a little blanket to put under her bum.

We have a ring sling. DW wore DS for the first time "out" at the grocery store recently; otherwise she practices in the house or on walks around the block. She loves it. I honestly haven't tried it!

@FannyMae: I rolled up a receiving blanket under DD's bum today in the ergo and it worked well! She hated the infant insert... I ended up returning it.
I love my moby, but I feel like it is such a pain to wrap outside of the home... I suppose it doesn't help that it's the middle of winter so I want something quick when we're out.
@MenagerieMama: @LindsayLou: I haven't tried a ring sling, but they seem quick and easy! How long are they comfortable to wear? And what would you say is a reasonable weight limit, regardless of what the manufacturer states?

@Miss Sarah: I love my ring sling. I made my own, and made it around 6 weeks. As soon as I had that, I started using the moby a lot less. It's quick, comfy, and convenient. Once you get the hang of getting a good fit with the ring sling--secure seat for baby, rings at a good spot, fabric distributed evenly on your back--it's very comfy. My kiddo will happily nap in it, and it's comfortable for a good 2 or 3 hours. It's not great to wear continuously all day, but works well to go up and down and back up again. Weight isn't an issue for us at 13.5 lbs and I think it will be doable well into toddlerhood.

We have a Boba wrap, an Ergo, a Beco Gemini, and a Tula. DH used the Ergo with the infant insert a TON when DD was teeny--but she was born in January so loved being all bundled up in the puffy insert. I used the wrap a ton on maternity leave around the house.
Once DD got a little bigger (around 3 months old) I started using the Beco. It was a lot easier for me to get in and out of a SSC when I was out and about. As soon as DD could fit in the Tula (minimum is 15 pounds, I think) I've used that almost exclusively. DH still wears her in the Ergo or Beco on occasion.
Whenever we have a second, I want to try a ring sling and a Solly wrap.

@Miss Sarah: ok so she hated the ergo with the blanky under her bum, was screaming and arching her back to get away. looks like I'll be sticking with the boba for now. I find it easier also because I can put it on before we leave, and then just drive to where we need to be with it on, and pop babe into it when we get there.

ETA: Sorry she didn't like it! My DD took a few minutes to settle down the first time in it, but she got cozy after that!

I use my ssc for long trips or doing housework. I use the RS for quick trips out since its quickest to put on.

I'm going to be an advocate for simplifying! I think the Moby or something like it can be helpful for about 3 months - soft, light, easy to wear around the house. But beyond that, I've found a SSC to be easy to wear, easy on my back, and practical for all amounts of time. I have a Beco Gemini - not a lot of bells and whistles, but simple, comfortable, adjustable for either my DH or myself. I don't think it's probably the most amazing carrier out there, but it has suited all our purposes from 4 weeks until now at 10 months.

With LO1, I just used an ergo (and infant insert). I baby wore a lot once she was big enough.
With LO2, I did a moby wrap at first, then the ergo, and a toddler Tula. Wasn't a huge fan of the wrap though and sold it.
With LO3, I will try out a solly wrap and do have my ergo but am planning to get add to my stash and get either another Tula, but in standard size, or a Lillebaby. I've heard great things about the latter.

I've got a stretchy wrap for the newborn phase but I get a tonne of use out of our standard Ergo. I back and front carry my 9mo (especially useful for the kindy run and when I can't be arsed getting out the pram) and I still occasionally back carry my 3yo in it (very handy if I have the little one in the pram and we're out somewhere busy!).

We have 2 ring slings, a k'tan, a bunch of woven wraps (natibaby and a gauze wrapsody), 2 baby tula's, 1 toddler tula, a lenny lamb ssc, and an ergo.
- I used the k'tan when my boys were infants. It was the easiest to pop on and off and situate a squishy newborn in.
- DH uses the ergo.
- I keep 1 baby tula in the car, and one in the house. I use that for running errands or when DS2 is inconsolable and I need to do housework. He loves it.
- I use wraps when we're out of the house and I'm going to be sitting and standing and moving around a lot, like the zoo or shopping. DS2 HATES when I sit with a Tula on, but doesn't mind if he's in a wrap. I use the gauze one in summer, and the others year round, depending on their weight/warmth.
- Toddler Tula I use when DS1 is tired of walking, which is surprisingly, more often than I would have thought.
- I pretty much never use my ring slings, because I can never get the baby situated in it comfortably! It's a user error lol -
@ValentineMommy: Wow! I'm jealous of your stash! I've heard great things about Tula, but wasn't sure if I'd need one since I have the Ergo... They are cute though! I just bought a ring sling on a swap last night. Hope I can figure it out!

@Miss Sarah: Aw, thanks! I liked the Ergo with DS1 and only became obsessed with Tula after seeing their cute patterns. I do find them more comfortable than the Ergo, but it's totally personal preference and body shape/build. DH prefers the Ergo (but that also may be because he doesn't prefer the cute patterns lol) You'll figure it out as you go along! And also, some babies have a preference! DS1 would go into anything and didn't really care. DS2 has preferences already and is only 5m old.

I have 1 baby tula, 1 toddler tula, a ring sling, a moby, and one woven wrap.
Right now I only use the toddler tula, since my LO is 33 months. I had an ergo when she was a baby that I didn't use, I used the moby when she was really tiny, but mostly I used the ring sling with her. When she was big enough she loved to be hip-carrried.
I'm 24 weeks now and just got the woven wrap in a trade, hoping to get the hang of it this time around

I have a k'tan for those early newborn days before they fit in the more structured SSC! Then I've used an Ergo. I also owned an Ergo 360 for the short while that DD liked to face out!

I only have the ergo, but I loved it! It made traveling and getting some housework done a breeze with a baby. DS didn't fit well into the Ergo until a couple months later. DD will be small also so I'm interested in a wrap/sling for those first two months when they're itty bitty.
