What baby carrier worked for you, if you are a small mama? I had the BabyBjorn One, and although baby liked it, it was tough on the back. (It's pulled a disappearing act, so it's a good excuse to try something else!) It had the supporting hip strap, but my torso was just too short to make it effective. I've just recently found out I'm pregnant with #2, so I'd like something a little different for baby wearing this time around. Thanks for your suggestions!

I am a petite mama and I have the Ergo. While I do love it, there are certain straps that I can pull ALL the way and it still doesn't fill me properly. haha. So, that's a downfall. But I don't use it enough to need anything better.

i'm about 5'2" and mostly used the ergo--i got a lot of use out of it. i also used the tula when LO got older. with both, there was certainly a lot of straps hanging all over the place (unless you roll them up and secure them with the rubber band they provide), but it worked! if i have another, i'm going to look into ring slings.
woven wraps are flexible, although there is a learning curve. i rented one and decided it wasn't for me, but because it's just one piece of cloth (of differing lengths depending on your size and carry style preference), it can work for people of any size.

Kinderpack makes a SSC that has sizing options. They have shorter "petite" straps that work well for anyone who finds that the reach/arm straps are too much for them length-wise. They are lovely, but a little hard to get ahold of. Naked Panda Designs also makes SSCs that I have heard are really lovely. Ask me about them again in about a month when ours gets to us. I know she has some in stock, and also custom-makes them if you need something particular. Amanda (the creator) is also just lovely to talk to and great at answering questions, so she might be a good person to contact.
And you know me and wovens--I swear by them. They are infinitely customizable to the wearer and wear-ee. So many price-points, so many colors and fiber options... I love them. They can be a great choice for someone who struggles to find an affordable SSC that fits well, though, as others have already said, there is a learning-curve associated.

Following! I am 5'2 and also used a Baby Bjorn, and it didn't work well. It was comfortable to wear but I needed help to put it on... pointless if you're trying to go out while alone at home. I'd love to use something better this time.

I am 5'1" and pretty small, and I can say what didn't really work for me, which was the ergo (straps could never fully tighten, baby sagged because it was loose, and it hurt my back). I also had the k'tan, which wasn't bad when LO was really small, but after she was about 2 months old, she didn't seem to like being so constricted. I'd love to find something that works for me the next time around.

I'm 5'1" and I used the K'tan when LO was a newborn up until about 3 months. It worked really well.
We have the Ergo now and really love it. It's great for the back b/c it distributes LO's weight pretty evenly so you can walk for a long time
The Ergo is great too b/c both DH and I could wear it (obviously adjusting it for our heights/build) but with the K'tan you have to get the size that fits you so you can't share with a SO or somebody who is a different size. The K'tan was a little constricting so when LO started to get bigger and looking around a lot more it wasn't really conducive. But I liked it at that time.
If I had to do all over again I would go with the Ergo from the get go and get the infant insert - I think it would have been cheaper in the long run. -
I'm 5'1" and started out with an Ergo. Ended up buying a Pognae on a whim and I LOVE it. Almost like the Ergo but better. Gave my Ergo to a friend.

I used a Moby when my son was little and a Boba (similar to the Ergo) when he was older. I liked them both! (I'm 5'0")
@Anya: my husband and I are a foot apart. We're at opposite ends of our carrier's limits but it works out okay (not perfect at all, but doable). -
I'm 5'1" and found that the ergo never felt comfortable. I always felt like it was too long for my torso. I have the Pikkolo from Catbirdbaby and *love* it. The straps aren't quite as padded as the ergo but otherwise it's extremely similar. I found it very easy to use and comfortable.

I'm 5'0" and the Ergo was way too big for my torso. I researched a lot for my second son and found the Beco to fit perfect. It's extremely comfortable, even with my large 7month old.

I'm 4'10.5" and I love my Becco Gemini it tightens perfectly.

I'm 5'0" and I use a toddler tula now and liked slings when my daughter was itty-bitty. I used a Britax carrier after the sling & before the Tula, but it is not nearly as comfortable for longer periods, so o if I was having a second child, I would get a standard Tula for after the sling.

I'm petite (5'3" and 125 lbs) and I wore the Baby Bjorn in front and Ergo in the back with my twins!

I am 5'1" and had to ditch the Ergo. Even on the tightest setting, my LO sagged too much. I ended up buying a Tula, which I love.
I also used a Baby K'tan (size small) until my LO was around 15 lbs.

I am 5'0 but I have a long torso and short legs. The Ergo worked great for us starting at around 4 months. Prior to that, we loved the Ktan.

I'm super short torso'd and loved my infantino ergonomic carrier. It's like a short torso version of the ergo. I used it and DH used the ergo. The ergo worked ok for me but wasn't ideal. For this next pregnancy I'm thinking about getting a solly baby wrap as well to try more of a wrap versus a structured carrier.

I'm 5'1 and used a Moby and a Beco Gemini and really loved them both. I had tried a friend's Ergo and just couldn't get it to fit right - but she's also 5'1 and loves it, so everyone's different!

These are great suggestions! I'm definitely looking for something for DH and I to share, and I'm a little nervous (terrified) about trying to configure a wrap while toddler big brother makes a run for it. I've been doing some researching on your suggestions; I'll let you know what I decide!

I'm 4'11 and dh is 6ft and we shared the becco Gemini with success! Failures included ktan (too big) and bjorn (hip support too low). After about. 9 months or so I also got a little life hiking backpack which also works for both of is and is amazing!

5'2 with a VERY short torso. I have the Beco Gemini and like it.. but I'm looking forward to trying other carriers. One good thing about it is that it's extremely adjustable: my 6'1" husband loves wearing it too.
Because I'm so petite width-wise I have to wear the base on my hips (it doesn't tighten enough around my waist) so the balance hurts my lower back a bit.
Can you see if there is a babywearing group near you? Check meetup.com or facebook. Often they will have a 'lending library' you can borrow from, and they will work with you to find the perfect type and fit.
