Curious what baby wearers like for a hip carry? I would like to buy something that I can use for a hip and back carry as LO gets older. He's getting to heavy to lug around all the time. Would love to hear some suggestions!

The Ergo has a hip carry. I've tried it but I prefer just to wear here on the front but a bit off centered.

I don't do a hip carry, but I know the Beco Gemini has a hip carry (in addition to front, facing out, and back). I carry my 14-month-old in a Tula toddler carrier. I still mostly carry her in the front carry facing me, the Tula allows for her legs to wrap around me so that they don't hit against my legs and can also be worn on the back.

I have an Ergo. Right now I only front carry but plan to do hip carry in the future.

The Beco with a hip carry is odd for me. I bought a ring sling to hip carry and so far I love it!

If I want to be able to do a hip and back carry, I love having a wrap around. My favorites are the Wrapsody Baby ones (which are also inexpensive, as wraps go!).

I was initially thinking ring sling but read that it wasn't much support?! Oh boy I'm not sure how I'll make a decision. We have a Baby Bjorn, do you think the Ergo is too similar to purchase? The Beco, from pics does look like it may be a bit odd for a hip carry. Will look into the hotsling. Thanks!!!

I just ordered a ring sling for hip carries. I've used a Seven Sling, and I like it, too. I'd like it more if it was a little bit bigger.
FWIW, I've tried the Ergo in hip carry mode a couple times, and I hated it! The front strap was all up on my neck and it was very uncomfortable. If I were you, I wouldn't buy an Ergo just for the hip carry option. But I do love my Ergo for front carry.

@lolabee: Hava (http://www.havasling.com/) makes a great ring sling.

@Weagle: @pelikila: wonderful, thanks ladies! I will look into both of them.

If you want to do hip AND back carries down the road I would recommend a woven wrap. You CAN do a ring sling on your back but I find it terribly uncomfortable.

Navy_Mommy; Want to be my new best friend and partner in crime on the babywearing front? We think alike. I was just about to pop in and say that a ring sling might not be the best if you want back carries to be a reasonable option. But they are great for easy hip carries!

I use a hotsling for hip carries. My LO still isn't very heavy though, so not sure how it holds up to a heavier child.
