Hello - A friend's husband was just diagnosed with what they suspect is testicular cancer after they discovered a mass. From what I know, this type of cancer -- if you have to get cancer -- is fairly easy to cure, but does anyone have firsthand experience with it in their family?

My uncle had it 30 years ago. Treatment destroyed his fertility, but he's still here.

A close friend of the family was diagnosed at a fairly young age, I think he was in his early 20s? Lost one testicle but he's in his mid 30s now and doing just fine.

A friend of mine was diagnosed with it a few years ago and is currently cancer free. He's not sure if he can have children yet (not at that stage in life), but a colleague of my husbands had it right after college and has two children now.

My step sister's long term bf had this several years ago. It had spread and things did not look good, but he beat it! They thought it destroyed his fertility but surprise now have a 10 year old.
I hope the outcome is just as good for your friend. -
My BIL had testicular cancer in his 20's (before he and my sister met). He lost a testicle. But he is healthy and they have two children. The biggest issue is that he has to take testosterone which he has to go off when they are trying to conceive. When he goes off the testosterone, it causes mood swings and lethargy that he has to battle.

My dad had it. Non-hodgkins lymphoma. The book It's Not About The Bike by Lance Armstrong was helpful for him to read, it details his battle. He has been in remission for about 15 years now!

@Paddington10: lymphoma of the testicule I think. NHL can occur throughout the body. I don't know specifics though, just the disease name and where it occurred.

My husband had testicular cancer about 7 years ago. He lost one testicle, had radiation but was able to avoid chemo. At the time fertility was a question and he should have frozen sperm but we rushed the surgery and for one reason or another did not do this. We have 2 children (1 and 2.5) now and were lucky that fertility wasn't an issue. He's cancer free and doing great!!

Not my family but a close friend. He was around 30. Treatment lasted months. They said it would be impossible to have any more children so did not use BC. They had a surprise second child several years later.
