OMG I can't believe I am admitting this. But I am totally into the concept.
I'd love to have another woman in the house who loves my LO, loves taking care of her, loves mothering her, etc. And it would be nice to have a sister-like person to hang out with and whatnot.
And it would be awesome to have another person to help be a good wife to DH! Haha I'm probably crazy.
Too bad DH says "One wife is ENOUGH"

I hear you 100%!! It be soooooo nice to have another person helping out around the house! Also, Hubs sex drive and mine don't always match, so it'd be nice to share him so I wasn't just disappointing him all the time by turning him down!
That being said, I'm a super jealous person, so I couldn't ACTUALLY do it. I'd be constantly worried Hubs liked her more than me!

I'm 100% down for it, assuming that she has no love interest in DH or his boy bits. Another woman to hang out with, help with housework, wash the dog, take care of LO (And me!) sounds like a dream!

@runsyellowlites: I also thought the idea of a small "village" was sooo appealing! Several friends, all working together to raise all the kids, be friends, help out, etc... maybe not all in the same house but separate living quarters with a community building for holidays, meals, parties etc.

I've always liked the idea in theory, if I could get over the jealousy (and I'm not sure I could). In practice, however, people come with their own needs, their own agendas and their own bad habits.... Imagine if you were struggling with IF and your sister wife kept getting pregnant (with your DH's baby). I mean - woah! Or if your sister wife became very sick and not only did you have to do all the housework, deal with her children as well as yours and run around after her but your DH spent all his free time with her or moped around during "your turn" to spend time with him because he was sad that she was so sick. I think people who make the polygamy thing work are pretty amazing, really. In practice - not for me!

@Cherrybee: That happened in the show Sister Wives! His first wife had one baby, and then couldn't have any more. Then the husband went on to have like 10 more babies with the other wives. Wife #1 was definitely upset by the situation! He offered to do IVF with her so that they could have another baby but she didn't want to.

To be honest, I don't really get why anyone would be OK with sharing their significant other! Is it not cheating bc you know about it or bc you said it's OK.

I couldn't share my family with another woman, I couldn't deal with even a nanny so another woman having an actual claim on my family would be completely out of the question. I guess I am just really jealous.

@runsyellowlites: Communal living is actually my dream! It just seems like the perfect setup, to me. We'd have a big garden, some chickens and goats (for milk and eggs), someone who liked to knit/sew could make adorable baby things. Someone else could wash my dishes...
But I would definitely be very picky about who was allowed to be a member, which is kind of against the whole Hippie movement/Free Love idea, isn't it?

@regberadaisy: I agree with @highwire. If all parties are willing then I don't think it is considered cheating. There are an abundance of couples who swing who still have loving, fulfilling, trust-filled relationships. While not something I'd be ok with, I don't consider that cheating either.

@highwire: I love Sister Wives! I also loved Big Love, but it's even cooler to see a real-life polygamist family. I really have no problem with polygamy, if that's what you want to do any everyone is of age and consents. I think I'm just too jealous, naturally, for it to work for us.

Think about back in the day when men used to go to war and many never came back. There would be women and children who were homeless and lost because the father''s at that time made the money. And people had a lot more kids back then too. It was looked at as NOBLE for a man to marry his friends' widowed wife and take care of his kids! (I'm talking India..Arabia...)
On that note- the world is a different place now and we live in a different culture, so no, I wouldn't be able to do nor do I have the interest. But, I wouldn't dog anyone who did...to each their own!

@googly-eyes: makes me think of the emporer days when he had 50 wives and usually went to sleep with one wive that he truly loved. And everyone had their own building with their own kids.
And there is jealousy and hate. Who's to say you'll even like the other wives?
More than one female + one male living under one roof is just a bad idea imo! hahah Women are catty.

@TurtleDoves: China too. But I think that is a different scenario. It is more a "responsibility and duty" thing. There are no feelings involved. Most cases it does not transcend into a sexual relationship. You're not looking to breed with them.

@googly-eyes: It would be a risk, but there's risk in monogamist relationships too that could be similarly awful and it isn't stopping anyone from getting married (serious spousal illness, spousal death, spousal infidelity/loss of love/divorce/etc.) plus there are step children that sometimes come with a regular monogamist marriage, so sometimes you take care of other people's kids that belong to your husband in that situation as well. And it is a bonus sometimes if you bond with those children!
